Jon Moxley knows when to expect his match with MJF, with it set for the main event of AEW Full Gear – but that doesn’t mean he intends to sit on the sidelines as AEW World Champion. Tonight, he has accepted a challenge from one third of the AEW World Trios Champions with Penta El Zero Miedo. No stranger to Moxley, Penta was one of the first opponents of Moxley following his WWE exit – and they promised to cross paths once again in AEW. Tonight is that night, and with the AEW World Championship on the line? This could be the biggest night in the career of Penta if things go according to plan.
Penta El Zero Miedo Finally Gets A Singles Title Shot In AEW
This was actually the first singles title shot Penta got in AEW, and meant all of Death Triangle has challenged for the AEW World Championship. Moxley would shove Penta as the match began, before they’d trade chops. Penta would look for the Made In Japan, but Moxley blocked and looked for Death Rider – but was unsuccessful.
Moxley would miss the King Kong Lariat, as Penta halted him to taunt. Penta would get a two finger salute in response, before hitting a superkick to send the champion to the floor and diving onto him to keep the pressure. Moxley took a kick to the hamstring, before being hit with two fast chops.
Penta would set up the steel steps with ill intentions, but would hit the open palm chops to the chest at the ring post – but Moxley would dodge, causing Penta to chop steel. Moxley would work on the hand on the outside, before taking a Backstabber in the ring for a two count. Penta would charge into Moxley in the corner, with him being met with a snap Belly to Belly Suplex.
Moxley would hit some clubbing lariats before tearing at the mask with his teeth. Penta would avoid the lariat of Moxley, hitting a slick Slingblade for a one count. Moxley would catch Penta with a cutter after blocking the Fear Factor piledriver, before following up with a piledriver and crossface.
Jon Moxley Retains, Gets Beaten Down By The Firm – MJF Betrayed
Penta would be taken into the Hammer & Anvil Elbow smashes, before Moxley moved into the Bulldog Choke. Moxley would lose the grip as Penta loosened his mask, and would work his way into the Hammerlock Armbreaker on Moxley. They’d battle to the apron, with Penta hitting two enziguris before jumping off and looking for a Destroyer – but took a DDT on the steel steps.
Moxley would nail the King Kong Lariat in the ring, before setting up a superplex on Penta. Penta would slip free and nail the Fear Factor, with Moxley somehow able to kick out before three – showing why he’s the Ace of AEW. Moxley would block a springboard dive into the Paradigm Shift before the Death Rider for the victory.
After the bell, The Firm would hit the ring to beat Jon Moxley down. MJF told them earlier in the night to stay away from him before Full Gear, but Stokely Hathaway had different plans. W. Morrissey would be easily beating a weakened Moxley down, and the Blackpool Combat Club locker room was locked shut.
Austin Gunn grabbed a steel chair, and Moxley fought free briefly before MJF would hit the ramp. MJF would be conflicted on what to do, as Moxley was beaten down in the ring. He’d charge the ring to the defense of Moxley seemingly, before firing Stokely & The Firm. Ethan Page would kick MJF in the face, and now MJF was the one on the receiving end of a six way assault – ending with The Ego’s Edge in the ring, and a chokeslam through the time keepers table.
