Since the start of All Elite Wrestling, they’ve had some of the most iconic voices in the industry on their biggest show, AEW Dynamite. The legendary Jim Ross has been around since the start, often heard alongside Excalibur & Tony Schiavone. However, in recent months – you wouldn’t hear Jim Ross as much on Wednesday nights, with him replaced by Tazz. This started with Ross coming in for the second hour, and now he’s been completely moved to Friday nights AEW Rampage.
Jim Ross Was Moved To AEW Rampage To Improve The Show
During a recent episode of the Grillin JR podcast, Ross would speak about the transition to AEW Rampage – admitting he was a bit disappointed, but understood the move. Ross would be quoted saying the following.
“We’re trying real hard to make that one-hour show — improve it, make it better. I like working with Excalibur and Tony Schiavone. I think that’s our best grouping, at least for me because I’m working. I miss being on ‘Dynamite,’ but I’m glad that Tony [Khan] put me on ‘Rampage,’ because I wanna help build that brand. That was the concept. ‘Let’s put JR on Friday nights; maybe some viewers will tune in out of old time’s sake’ or whatever the reason may be.”
JR Started His Career Calling One Hour Shows, And Might End His Career Doing The Same
Jim Ross would go on to talk about how he feels he will be on AEW Rampage until his career is over, and how he’s fine ending his career as he started it, calling one hour shows. Ross would be quoted saying the following.
“It’s an hour show. That’s how I started with my career. Looks like that’s how I’m gonna end it, doing hour shows. If that’s the case, that’s fine with me.”
Putting an iconic voice on the show alongside bigger stars is a smart move to improve the event. Recently, we saw Orange Cassidy defend the AEW All-Atlantic Championship there, and this week Wardlow defends the TNT Championship against Matt Taven.
