FTR finally make their long awaited Japanese debut, after winning the IWGP Tag Team Championships back at Forbidden Door. The team they won the belts from were Jeff Cobb & Great-O-Khan – and they finally get their rematch tonight.
The United Empire duo have been able to shut down former champions like Fale & Owens or Bishamon, while FTR made a successful defence against Aussie Open in the UK. This is a big time match, which is something the IWGP Tag Team Championship has missed – and whoever wins will have earned it tonight, and will likely walk into Tokyo Dome to face the victors of the upcoming World Tag League.
Entering The World Of The United Empire
Cash Wheeler would start this match alongside Cobb, who would exclaim that FTR have walked into their house. The opening lock up would see Wheeler shoved off with ease, and a shoulder tackle would be shrugged off. Cobb would hit a hard mat return, and quickly moved into the front headlock.
Wheeler would show his wrestling ability, making his way free and taking Cobb down with a hurricanrana before tagging in Dax Harwood. Great-O-Khan would make his way into the ring, and was forced into the corner before a hard double handed chop. Shoulder tackles would get Harwood dropped twice, before Great-O-Khan held strong – with Harwood opting for a suplex instead.
FTR would work to cut the ring in half, setting up a drop toehold into a snap leg drop for a two count on Great-O-Khan. Harwood would have his arm attacked by Great-O-Khan with a flurry of elbow smashes, before being sat on in the corner. Cobb got the tag and hit some shoulder thrusts into the corner, before sending Harwood to the apron and bending the arm around the ropes.
Harwood would find himself isolated in the corner, with Cobb hitting a hard backbreaker before teasing the surfboard taunt. Instead, he’d focus on the arm of Harwood, with the pressure on the shoulder adding up. Wheeler was reaching far for a tag, and a Dragon Screw would get him an opening for the tag, but Cobb did everything in his power to prevent the tag, taking Wheeler off the apron.
The running back drop would follow, with Harwood narrowly missing another tag. Great-O-Khan would go right back to the shoulder of Harwood before being spiked with a DDT. Cobb would once again try to stop the tag, but Harwood dodged and Wheeler was legal.
FTR Prove They’re The Best Tag Team In The World
Wheeler would hit the ring with some heavy chops, before looking for a German Suplex. Great-O-Khan would help his partner out before taking a leaping lariat before Cobb was thrown with the suplex to a great reaction. Cobb would send Wheeler to the apron to look for the superplex, but Wheeler fought him off. Great-O-Khan would keep Wheeler in place, allowing for the superplex to be set.
Instead, Wheeler slipped free – and set up a Doomsday Bulldog for the pinfall attempt. Harwood was legal, as Great-O-Khan pulled Cobb to the United Empire corner to get the tag. They’d trade heavy blows in the middle of the ring, with Harwood nailing some short arm lariats that validate his nickname of Dax The Axe.
Great-O-Khan would drop him with an STO, as Cobb threw Wheeler throat first onto the barricade before Cobb would end up crushed in the barricade. Harwood would take a heavy lariat in the ring, before Great-O-Khan was set up on the corner for the superplex into the splash, with Cobb just making the save.
Tour of the Islands was blocked with a chopblock and a swing DDT, before Big Rig was blocked by Great-O-Khan. The Tenzan Tombstone Piledriver landed, getting a two count. Big Rig would follow, and FTR claimed the victory – ensuring that they carry the belts into Wrestle Kingdom 17.
