Recently, we would see both WWE & AEW express interest in one of the best rising stars in the industry – that being Bandido. Tony Khan would personally offer him a contract following his AEW Dynamite main event against Chris Jericho, but it wasn’t accepted on the spot. Instead, Bandido would also entertain an offer from WWE – but would end up opting to sign a three year contract with AEW instead.
Bandido Made His Choice Based On His Family
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer would explain what made Bandido choose AEW over WWE. It was not a choice based on the quality of the companies TV shows, leaders, or anything like that – with it instead being down to not wanting to uproot his family from Mexico.
Bandido did not want to have to move them to Florida to report to the WWE Performance Center, where Bandido would have started in the company as a member of the NXT roster. He also viewed AEW as the better long term option in regards to being able to spend more time with his family – noting that AEW requires less travel than the WWE main roster.
Agreeing To Maximum Number Of Dates
The contract Bandido signed with AEW is a typical three year deal, putting Bandido with AEW until the fall of 2025. He’s expected to be pushed hard, with Meltzer noting that Bandido agreed to a “maximum number of dates” – which will keep him on TV for the bulk of the coming years.
Right now, Bandido is involved in the AEW World Championship Eliminator tournament, going head to head with RUSH in the first round tonight on AEW Rampage. Bandido & RUSH are rivals from their time in Ring of Honor, with Bandido winning the ROH World Championship from RUSH in 2020.
The main issue AEW fans seem to have with new hires to the already bloated roster is people signing on, showing up a few times – and falling to the wayside. This hopefully won’t be the case with Bandido, if the wording of this report is correct.
