Right now, we have Chris Jericho as the Ring of Honor World Champion. He took the belt from Claudio Castagnoli at AEW Grand Slam, and would make his first defence this past Wednesday – taking on Bandido. It was a very competitive main event, with Bandido coming close to his second reign as ROH World Champion, but falling short after Jericho yanked his mask over this eyes and submitted him with the Liontamer. However, this might not be the last fans see of Bandido in AEW.
Bandido Offered AEW Contract By Tony Khan Following Match With Chris Jericho Over ROH World Championship
Following AEW Dynamite going off the air, and before AEW Rampage was taped – AEW owner Tony Khan would come out. He’d celebrate with Bandido, and offered him an AEW contract. Obviously the details of this contract aren’t known, but Khan is more serious about locking down talent recently – so we can expect he offered Bandido a multi-year deal.
There is no confirmation that Bandido accepted this contract, but it’s likely he has. Bandido was previously involved with ROH, and appeared at Supercard of Honor 2022 – the first Khan ran ROH PPV event. With the hopes of turning ROH back into a proper brand, Khan will need some stars for the brand – and Bandido fits that bill perfectly.
Previously Appeared At All In
Bandido appeared on the proto-AEW PPV “All In” in 2018 as well, competing in the main event of the evening. The Golden Elite (Kota Ibushi, Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) faced Bandido, Rey Fénix and Rey Mysterio in that main event – with all but Ibushi & Mysterio showing up in AEW at this point.
Others from All In yet to make their AEW debuts include Stephen Amell, Matt Cross, Flip Gordon, Marty Scurll, Nick Aldis, & Tessa Blanchard. The only possible debuts there are Cross & Aldis – with Amell being more focused on acting, and Scrull & Blanchard having major black marks on their names after recent controversies., Ibushi is potentially retired after a shoulder injury, and Mysterio is signed to a WWE contract.
