No one will ever claim it’s easy work being a WWE Superstar. It’s a physically demanding job, and at any given moment – injury could strike. That was the case this weekend, as Kevin Owens would go down during a match with Austin Theory. He would be able to finish the match, but was helped to the back – and now the severity of this injury is known.
Kevin Owens Suffers MCL Sprain During Live Event Match With Austin Theory
It would be reported today that Kevin Owens suffered an MCL sprain during this match. Not to be confused with the ACL, this injury could see Owens return to the ring within two months. It happened during his match with Austin Theory – after he planted his right knee awkwardly. They would rush to the finish, with Owens hitting the Stunner for the victory before being helped to the back.
The result is that Owens will miss Survivor Series, where it was assumed he would enter the War Games match against The Bloodline. Owens should be back in time for the Royal Rumble, and his absence could create a good moment during the match. With an injury like an MCL Sprain, it’s likely that WWE would rather wait until Owens is 100%, as to alleviate risk of a more serious injury which could put Owens out for several months instead.
Owens Was Off TV Due To Not Being Factored In Plans For Crown Jewel
Prior to this injury, Owens had been off TV due to not being factored into the card for Crown Jewel – last appearing on TV on September 30th. Owens remained active on live events despite this, teaming up with Johnny Gargano to wrestle The Usos and facing Austin Theory in singles matches.
It’s expected that Seth Rollins might now take the potential place of Owens in plans for WarGames, marking the debut of Rollins in the double caged match. Owens previously worked the match in 2019, helping Team Keith Lee defeat The Undisputed Era.
