Elon Musk took over Twitter and announced a lot of changes. Changes concerning the platform itself, and changes on the structural level of the company. He already fired numerous people from Twitter and asked everyone to commit to ‘hardcore 12 hours shifts’ until everything is as he envisions.
Acquiring a company is the easy part. Difficulties come along as you try to restructure it and make it work according to your vision. That is the case with Elon Musk and Twitter. Even though with a heavy heart, he paid the agreed $44 billion and bought Twitter. Now comes the hard part.
Elon Musk Has Had Enough Of Twitter -Says He’ll Find Someone Else To Take Over As He Apologizes For Firing Half Of The Staff
He started from the top, he fired all top executives from the company, and announced massive layoffs of up to 75%. He spent night and day in his Twitter office and the social media became his obsession for this couple of weeks. However, he announced that this is about to change in the following weeks.
Elon Musk testified in the Tesla trial couple of days ago. He confirmed that Twitter has had enough of his attention for enough time. However, he told the court that he cannot afford to continue to spend his days working on Twitter. He must focus on his other multi-billion companies as well.
“I expect to reduce my time at Twitter and find somebody else to run Twitter over time.” – Elon Musk announced.
He also gave an ultimatum to all of his newly acquired employees (that he decided to keep in the company). The billionaire told them to prepare for some ‘hardcore work’ environment. He asked the employees to do the requested changes as soon as possible. The tech mogul also gave a deadline of one week for all of this to be finished. But we all know Elon Musk’s deadlines – the guy thought that we would be on Mars by the end of 2022.
Asking Twitter employees to continue their work on board is not all. lon Musk asked them to sign a pledge in order to continue their work at the company. The Washington Post published this story and shared details on the content of the pledge.
According to The Post, all of Twitter’s staff received the same email on Wednesday. In the email, Elon Musk included a pledge link. He told them to sign the online pledge if they want to continue working for Twitter.
“If you are sure that you want to be part of the new Twitter, please click yes on the link below.” – Elon Musk wrote above the link to the online form.
The linked form started off with the time deadline for signing. Elon Musk asked the Twitter employees to sign the form by Thursday 5:00 pm at the latest. However, if they fail to sign it, they will be automatically laid off and will receive three months’ severance payment.
Elon Musk shared the latest information about Twitter on Wednesday morning on a court stand. He took the stand in court in a case brought against him by a Tesla shareholder. The accuser blames Elon Musk for ‘unjustified enrichment’.
The enrichment in question is a $56 billion packet award to Elon Musk, in the early days of the company. Elon Musk told the court that he did this due to uncertainty if the company will survive and succeed.
During the trial, the billionaire also admitted that he is using Tesla staff for Twitter purposes. He told the court that the software engineers are helping him at Twitter voluntarily. He also pointed out that they are doing so after their working hours at Tesla. According to him, they are helping him ‘evaluate’ things.
Concerning his working time, Elon Musk says that it is unpredictable. He spends his days in the company that requires his unavoidable help. During the last couple of weeks, that company is Twitter.
After acquiring Twitter, Elon Musk told his employees to prepare for long shifts and high-intensity work. He warned everybody of what is to come together with his acquisition. Elon Musk told that ‘only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade’ at Twitter.
The billionaire receives a massive backlash as many people criticize him for acting as a ‘dictator’ on the platform. He fired more than half of Twitter employees of certain departments with no particular reason.
Elon Musk also confessed to letting go of staff that did nothing wrong except criticize his work on Slack channels. He branded himself the ‘Chief Twit’ and ‘Twitter’s Complaints Department’ as he announced the ongoing Twitter transformation to an engineer-driver company.
“Those writing great code will constitute the majority of our team and have the greatest sway.” – Elon Musk said. “Going forward, to build a breakthrough Twitter 2.0 and succeed in an increasingly competitive world, we’ll need to be extremely hardcore. This will mean long hours at high intensity. Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade.”
The billionaire didn’t agree with Twitter’s practice until now. He told that the finance department at Twitter should go through a complete transformation. He feels some of the funds are spent unnecessarily.
Elon Musk took to Twitter (ironically) to apologize to all the employees he fired in the recent period for ‘no particular reason’.
“I would like to apologize for firing these geniuses. Their immense talent will no doubt be of great use elsewhere.” – the billionaire tweeted.
Letting go of employees is not the big deal here. However, the way the employees received the information about the termination of their deal is shocking. The employees don’t receive any prior warning or a hint. But, they only receive the information about their termination of the deal via email.
One of the employees that Elon Musk fired for exactly this reason, tweeted a screenshot of the email.
“We regret to inform you that your employment is terminated effective immediately. Your recent behavior has violated company policy.” – the email reads. “Our operations team will be reaching out to you with offboarding instructions. If you have any follow up questions you can email alum@twitter.com”
