After making Twitter a politically ‘neutral’ platform, Elon Musk told Twitter users that he will do ‘everything in his power’ to declassify and reveal all documents leading to the decision to ban the Hunter Biden story on the platform.
Before Elon Musk bought Twitter, and apparently just in time to protect Joe Biden’s bid for President in the 2020 US Election, the platform blacklisted the story about the Hunter Biden laptop. The Twitter audience, and the world in general, saw this move as completely ‘politically motivated censorship’. Twitter made a decision that would deliberately prevent users to share, a link to the front-page newspaper article about Hunter Biden. Furthermore, Twitter targeted any reproduction, or quote from the story and deleted it as going against ‘community standards’.

The story, as everyone with a little bit of curiosity knows, is about Hunter Biden’s private life. Furthermore, it reflected on Hunter Biden’s ties with some Ukrainian companies, while there was an election battle going on between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
“Raise your hand if you think [Musk] should make public all internal discussions about the decision to censor the story on Hunter Biden’s laptop before the 2020 Election in the interest of Transparency.” – One Twitter user initiated the conversation.
“This is necessary to restore public trust.” – Elon Musk responded.
At the time of the emergence of the stories, the situation with the election made fertile soil for seeding the thought that the story is fake news. There were ongoing elections, so it seemed like the Republican party made up the story in order to put some dirt on Joe Biden. However, as time passed on, more and more information surfaced. People started realizing that the story might be actually true.
Different outlets and several social media platforms claimed that the story is fake. Furthermore, left-leaning outlets did everything in their power to censure the story as much as possible. However, Elon Musk did not see this as appropriate at the time.
As usual, the billionaire took to Twitter to criticize them that their decision to ban the story is ‘obviously incredibly inappropriate’. That’s why, now that he owns the company, he digs into the past and decides on repairing what the previous establishment didn’t do right. Upon his takeover, he pledged to make Twitter a more open ‘digital town square’.
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.” – Elon Musk wrote after the Twitter acquisition.
After all, boosting free speech is one of the main reasons why Elon Musk took over the social media. At least that’s what he said before completing the deal.
The Hunter Biden controversy also includes a highlight on his drug addictions. The story said that there is a phone conversation between President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden that is now public. In it, the president urges his son to ‘get help’ about his drug addiction problem. At the same time, the Republican wing in the US decided on pushing forward with the investigation about Hunter Biden’s connections to Ukraine.
At this time, there were numerous companies that decided on going silent about the Hunter Biden stories. The scandal was huge, but none of the official organizations did anything to dig deeper into it. A whistleblower from the FBI claimed that people in power muted even the FBI in regard to the Hunter Biden story.
The story told how Hunter Biden went and left a laptop in a repair store, and forgot to pick it up. After some time, the store opened the laptop and found some troubling information on its hard drive. There were emails, documents, photos, and videos that had very sensitive material. The left-wing newsletters spread stories that someone fabricated the laptop story, that the laptop is not actually Hunter Biden’s. However, cyber forensics experts examined the hard disk with hopes to clear this once and for all. As it turns out, the laptop is Hunter Biden’s. The laptop is authentic.
The people that examined it are deep into cyber forensics for years. The founder of the forensic company is Brad Maryman, a veteran coming from long service in the FBI. His partner is a long-time professor at the University of Southern California.
“The operating system timestamps appear to be authentic. We found no evidence to suggest that someone altered of manufactured the timestamps or data.” – Brad Maryman told DailyMail. “No indications were found that would suggest the data was manufactured.”
Numerous left-wing organizations and outlets praised the censoring of the Hunter Biden story on Twitter. However, Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, seems to agree with Elon Musk. Jack Dorsey told that Twitter made a mistake by banning the story.
“It was literally just a process error. This is not against them in any particular way.” – Jack Dorsey told the House Energy and Commerce Committee. “If we remove a violation we require people to correct it. We changed that based on their wanting to delete that tweet, which I completely agree with. I see it. But it is something we learn.”
Twitter requested numerous outlets to delete their tweets about the Hunter Biden story. Page Six is amongst the few that opposed Twitter and didn’t delete the story. For this, Twitter blocked Page Six’s account for two weeks.
“Twitter blocked the entire account two weeks by a mistake. This seems like a really big mistake.” – the Republican party representatives told Dorsey. “Was anyone held accountable in your censoring department for that mistake?”
“Well, we don’t have a censoring department.” – Jack Dorsey told. “We required them to delete the tweet and then they could tweet it again. They didn’t take that action, so we corrected it for them.”
People expect Twitter under Elon Musk to deliver what he promised. There should be no censorship, no holding back, and no lies. He promised that Twitter will be the town hall for free speech. Let’s see whether he will deliver.
