In response to John Herdman’s bold declaration that the Canadian football team will ‘f**k Croatia up’ the next time they meet, a Croatian newspaper put a photoshopped image of him naked on the front page.
Croatian Newspaper Humiliates Canada’s John Herdman With NAKED Maple Leaf Image Amid Their World Cup Meeting-‘We’re Going To Go And Eff Croatia’
In an apparent jab at the Canadian team’s coach, a Croatian daily newspaper by the name of ‘24 Sata’ published a picture of Herdman fully naked with maple leaf-shaped Canadian flags covering his mouth and his private parts: “You have the mouth, but do you have the balls as well?” the headline asked.
This feud started after the comments made by Herdman in the aftermath of Canada’s 1-0 loss to Belgium. Despite outplaying them, the team failed to get the decisive goals.
So when it came to the post match team talk, Herdman was doing everything in his power to rouse his players in readiness for their match with Croatia.
In his comments at the time, he said: “I told them they belong here. And we’re going to go and eff Croatia. That’s as simple as it gets.”
With the Candanias taking on the Croats on Sunday, 27th November 2022, there is added pressure to live up to those words. Both sides have not had the best of starts to the tournament.
Croatia opened their tournament with a 0-0 draw against Morocco, despite being odds on favourites to win that. And after having made the finals of the World Cup in 2018 where they lost to eventual winners France, there is a lot of spice to this tie.
And that is something Herdman recognised. His following comments confirmed as much: “It’s not massively respectful to Croatian people and the Croatian national team.
“I understand very well where they’re at on the world stage. But in that moment, you’ve taken your men to that next place.” Time will tell which side ends up coming out on top, as this is a tie you cannot miss.
