We’re in the middle of the annual tag team tournaments in New Japan Pro Wrestling, with World Tag League & Super Junior Tag League running side by side. However – one team will not be making it all the way to the finals, as Chase Owens with being forced to withdraw from the tournament. This was was not due to injury, but rather a death in his family.
Chase Owens Pulls Out From World Tag League After Death In The Family
This news would be first shared by NJPW1972.com. The following would be shared.
“Chase Owens, who has been competing alongside Bad Luck Fale in the World Tag League, will be returning home for the remainder of the series following a death in the family, and will be absent from events starting tonight in Osaka.
We apologise to fans who were looking forward to seeing Chase wrestle, and appreciate your understanding.
Tonight’s scheduled bout between Fale and Owens and Bishamon will be cancelled. For the remainder of the tour, Chase and Fale’s World Tag League matches will be forfeited, and two points awarded to their scheduled opponents. Forthcoming World and Super Junior Tag League dates will also see card changes.”
Fale & Owens Were At Four Points
In the tournament, Fale & Owens had claimed two victories, defeating Alex Coughlin & Gabriel Kidd as well as EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi. Both those teams remain at zero points, and will be unable to benefit from the free points that the upcoming opponents of Fale & Owens will receive.
Their upcoming opponents included Bishamon, TMDK, SANADA & Naito, and Aussie Open – who will all appreciate the extra points. With Fale & Owens being a very middle of the pack team in the tournament, this will likely not impact many plans for the the rest of the tour, nor the finals.
Needless to say, family is always more important than professional wrestling. We here at TheOvertimer wish Owens and his family all the best in these hard times. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
