It’s finally time for Karl Anderson to put up, or shut up. After signing a WWE contract while NEVER Openweight Champion, he’d skip a title defence in November – but couldn’t escape Hikule’o forever. The only thing that kept Anderson from being stripped of the title was Hikule’o stopping them, instead waiting for the match and a chance to take the belt by force.

Tonight, Hikule’o gets his chance to become champion, as Anderson puts his belt on the line in a big time singles encounter. Hikule’o is fighting more than just a championship match tonight, he’s fighting for NJPW to regain one of its key singles championships. After all, Hikule’o is unable to get the win, who knows when Anderson will return to Japan next?

Hikule’o Fights To Bring The Gold Home To NJPW

Doc Gallows was nowhere to be seen as this match began, while Hikule’o had Jado in his corner. Anderson would walk right into a spinebuster as the bell rang, nearly being pinned. He’d avoid the powerslam, slipping from the ring and into the crowd before being launched chest first onto the steel barricade.

Anderson tried to escape up the ramp next, but was simply thrown into the barricade again. Back into the ring, Anderson was thrown shoulder first into the corner before stumbling away from the ring again and taking a heavy handed chop. Another toss into the barricade followed, with Hikule’o relentless.

Anderson would get into the ring and use the high ground to hit Hikule’o with the Dragon Screw through the ropes. Cutting the giant down with strikes to the leg and looking for a countout was the plan of Anderson, but Hikule’o got back into the ring at the count of nineteen. Back in the ring, Anderson would choke Hikule’o before applying a leg lock in the middle of the ring and being shoved off.

Karl Anderson Didn’t Come To Japan To Drop A Title

Some stiff strikes would follow in the corner, with Hikule’o finishing with a lariat for a two count. Powerslam would land, but Anderson was able to kick out once again. Chokeslam was set up, but Anderson fought free and hit a spinebuster. GunStun would be blocked by a boot to the face and a snap powerslam, getting another near fall.

Gedo would rush the ring, only to be dropped with a chokeslam. Anderson had a chance to recover, and blocked a Chokeslam into a Gunstun for the victory. Still NEVER Openweight Champion – Karl Anderson. After the match, he’d grab a microphone and remind everyone that he’s the greatest NEVER Openweight Champion of all time.

Anderson would claim to be the forever champion, only for former champion Tama Tonga to hit the ring. They’d trade blows, with Anderson dropping Tama with the Gun Stun. He’d make a formal challenge for Wrestle Kingdom, as Tama stared up at the bright lights. Will we see Tama win at Tokyo Dome for the NEVER Openweight Championship? A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
