Some of our favorite stories in the pro wrestling world involve the legitimate tough guys in the business, and one of those that has a heart of gold is Jim Duggan.
For many, he best remembered as “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan in the WWE as he was carried a 2×4 and was a highly popular face in the company.
While nearly everyone has talked about how kind and gentle he is, there’s a new story to add to the ones he likes to share and it involves detaining a home intruder in his South Carolina home.
According to wrestlinginc.com, Duggan’s home was broken into on December 8 around 6:45 at night.
A young man in his mid 20s reportedly pounded on his door before entering through the unlocked door, and Duggan tacked him to the ground and held him at gunpoint with his .44.
The Duggans said they heard people shouting outside, so they turned off their Christmas lights to avoid more people coming there.
The Duggans said the young man was “hysterically frightened” and claimed people from a nearby house related to a recent burglary were coming to kill him and he was looking for a place to hide.
A step above
Duggan and his wife, Debra, waited for the police to come and declined to press charges on the young man when he was taken away.
Duggan explained he was grateful he didn’t shoot the young man, and it speaks a lot to what Duggan can still do even in his late 60s physically, but how he’s also thoughtful and careful in various situations.
To add to the story, Duggan also completed cancer radiation treatment that he documented on his Instagram and shared his appreciation to his fans, friends, and family for being there for him.
As wrestling stories go, this may be tame, but it’s good to hear after things were handled as peacefully as possible and no one was hurt.
While it may seem like an odd thing to say, the young man picked the right house given how things worked out. Had it been anyone else, someone could’ve gotten hurt or even killed, and there wouldn’t be a feel good moment in it.
One thing we’ve learned is that wrestlers never cease to amaze us, and their stories cover the gambit from crazy to heartwarming and we love hearing as many as we can.
