Toronto Police have announced that eight teenaged girls have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the death of a 59-year-old man.

From what was shared by the Toronto Police, they reported to an assault call downtown on York St and University Avenue on December 18, 2022 at 12:17 AM. When they arrived, they found the victim suffering from stab wounds but still alive. He would pass from his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.
The man was described as a resident who lived in a shelter close to where he was killed. According to Detective Sergeant Terry Browne, the police were able to track the girls down and arrested them for the murder. Not the identities of the victim or the suspects were released.
What authorities were able to release are the ages of the suspects saying that three 13-year-olds, three 14-year-olds, and two 16-year-olds were arrested and charged. Browne said that the group couldn’t be considered a gang because the girls came from different areas of the city and met each other online.
It’s unknown if the girls planned this attack in advance or if they took the first opportunity they got, however authorities did seize weapons from the group. It was also revealed that three of the girls had run into the police before.
Currently, the eight suspects remain behind bars.
