When it comes to the career of Lio Rush, many will forever remember him solely for his time in WWE. While his career there ended with a reign as NXT Cruiserweight Champion, it was him managing Bobby Lashley on the WWE main roster that really got him infront of fans. Rush was excellent in the role, and pulled from a certain famous comedian heavily.
Lio Rush Drew Heavy Influence From Kevin Hart For WWE Manager Character
During an interview with Metro, Rush would reveal where he got his inspiration for his high energy trash talking character in WWE.
“I drew a lot from – I got a bunch of jokes on this, but I never said it in an interview, but I drew a lot of my inspiration from Kevin Hart. What I was looking at with Kevin was, he was so short – he’s gonna hear this one day, I know he is! He was a shorter guy but he was so fired, he was so snappy. That was the biggest character trait with him that really stuck out to me, and I wanted to have that with my character. I wanted to look small in stature, but when you talk to me I wanted to be snappy and confident and funny.”
Rush would go on to say that he looks back fondly on this stage of his career – calling it the most fun he’s ever had.
“That was the most fun I’ve had in my wrestling career. Even if it was something that I didn’t necessarily want to do – that wasn’t my first choice, to be a manager – but that was for sure the most fun that I’ve had. I was figuring it out, I was learning as time went on – and I did figure it out, i feel like I did catch a stride and find myself within the character. I found what worked for me, what got certain reactions, what was funny, what was gonna grab people’s attention the most. I had a lot of fun doing that character, overall.”
Rush Is Potentially Going To Be A Champion In NJPW To Start 2023
Right now, Rush is preparing for his Tokyo Dome debut in NJPW, having won the Super Junior Tag League alongside CHAOS stablemate YOH. They will be opening the main card against IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Catch 2/2 – giving Rush a chance to win his first gold in NJPW.
Rush is seemingly loyal to NJPW, and has a great chance to be a featured star in the junior heavyweight division in 2023. Many fans are looking forward to seeing him in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament, as despite his tag team status – Rush is a potential IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.
