The WWE run of Cain Velasquez is going to go down in history as one of the weirdest in company history. Formerly a UFC Heavyweight Champion, Velasaquez turned some heads when he made his professional wrestling debut down in Mexico – leading to him being signed to WWE. His only on-screen match was against MMA rival Brock Lesnar in Saudi Arabia, which was an eye opening experience for Velasquez.
Cain Velasquez Was Uncomfortable Planning Match With Brock Lesnar
While appearing on Konnan’s “Keeping It 100” podcast, Velasquez would describe how it felt putting together his match with Lesnar together after their MMA past.
“Yeah, professional and I would say it was a little uncomfortable planning the match with Brock Lesnar. I’m just so new to the wrestling world but everyone that I’ve worked with has been amazing as far as, you take care of everybody. We really do try to put in some good things in there where everyone gets what they want out of it and making it just for the fans. Working with Brock was interesting man, that’s all I’m gonna say. It was very different. You kind of just learn from your life and okay, this is what this was. I know for next time if something else ever happens for next time but… With Brock, that’s kind of what it was and again, the best thing about what I do now with wrestling is I can bring my family in and they’re true fans of it, you know? And that is the best.”
Following that match, Velasquez would work a single live event with WWE before being released in 2020. He recently made his return to the ring for AAA, teaming with Blue Demon Jr. & Psycho Clown to defeat Gringo Loco, Sam Adonis & Taurus – his first match in a year. Velasquez is expected to continue with AAA in 2023, hopefully moving past part time status in the process.
