Well… this has been a newsworthy week to say the least. Jeff Hardy, Paige and John Cena will all be appearing on this show but that’s not really the story. Tonight, we still have an episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown but in the wake of the Coronavirus, it will be taking place from the WWE Performance Center rather than the spacious arenas we’re used to seeing major WWE shows emanate from. WWE usually wants nothing more than to make sure that every single show looks exactly the same but this week it seems they won’t be able to help having a unique atmosphere, even it it ends up looking like SmackDown is being held in an empty Fullsail. That’s still a far cry from the norm.
I’m Jordan Huie, you’re here with us at the Overtimer where you’ll still be getting the same coverage as always, plus this preview post. But there frankly isn’t enough to talk about for the usual separate articles this time. With so much up in the air, all we know for sure is that a number of special appearances are still planned.
Jeff Hardy, Paige and John Cena To Appear Tonight On WWE Friday Night SmackDown
We of course know Cena is here to contend with Bray Wyatt, weeks ahead of his WrestleMania clash with the Fiend. One can only wonder the fun Bray might have in this unique environment.
It was announced that Paige would be confronting WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley on tonight’s show. Though little else was really said, one can infer that she’ll be announcing who Bayley will be facing at WrestleMania. Paige is of course a former general manager of SmackDown, a role that by all accounts she really seems to miss. She was actually received pretty well in the spot too, but fell victim to an edict to do away with authority figures, something that had a lot more to do with Raw’s Constable Corbin angle than anything else. Might this double as a return to her old role?
Then you have Jeff Hardy, who we haven’t seen live since him and his brother Matt were attacked by Lars Sullivan over a year ago, something that I’m sure they will have entirely forgotten about. With him returning so close to WrestleMania one can assume he’ll be involved. Notable heels without a clear opponent are King Corbin and Sheamus. I’d kinda figure one of them goes after Jeff here and the other might contend with Daniel Bryan.
