In another example of the authority or access being used for illicit gain, a correctional center medical assistant was involved in the smuggling of ketamine and cocaine.
Medical Assistant Given Six Years for Smuggling Cocaine and Ketamine into UK Prison
According to investigators, Megan Woodham (30) was based at Her Majesty’s Prison Risley in Cheshire. There, she worked with several others to smuggle the drugs into the prison. The other parties involved were all apprehended and have been sentenced to prison.
Woodman was found guilty of conspiracy to supply cocaine and ketamine and sentenced to six years. She was caught up in the raids after associate John Butler (27) was arrested with £1 million in cocaine weighing 10kilos in January 2022.
Butler avoided a lengthier sentence when he pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply. He was given eight years in February 2022.
Co-conspirators Daniel Doran (32) and Kelsey Higgins (26) drew 15-year and 13.5-year sentences, respectively. The only associate who hasn’t been sentenced yet is Valerie Doran (54). She was found guilty on December 15, 2022 for money laundering and will be sentenced on January 20.
