Jeremy Clarkson is famous for his big mouth. And this is not a new feature that he acquired recently. He has been like this forever. Since he ran the Top Gear show, and since he worked as a journalist on the BBC. However, he faced one of his biggest backlashes a couple of weeks ago, when he made a ‘horrible’ rant against Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s wife.
Ever since the article he published about the Duchess of Sussex, Amazon canceled his shows ‘The Grand Tour’ and ‘Clarkson’s Farm’. The already filmed episodes will run, however, after 2024 there will be no more Jeremy Clarkson on Amazon.
ITV Considers Cancelling Jeremy Clarkson For His Meghan Markle Rant
Nevertheless, if you thought that this is the only worry that Jeremy Clarkson may face, you’d be wrong. A couple of weeks after his rant about Meghan Markle, he might receive a cancellation from ITV as well. On ITV, Jeremy Clarkson is the host of the show ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’.
ITV is on Meghan Markle’s side in any case. We can be sure about it because the channel had already cut ties with Piers Morgan for a very similar reason. Piers Morgan had led the ‘Good Morning Britain’ show for a long time. However, after speaking about Meghan Markle, ITV gave him the ‘boot’.
Jeremy Clarkson’s employment as the host of ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ is in ‘danger’, because the same head of ITV Carolyn McCall is still in charge.
“I hate her, not like I hate Nicola Sturgeon or Rose West, I hate her on a cellular level.” – Jeremy Clarkson wrote about Meghan Markle in The Sun. “At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant ‘Shame!’ and thrown lumps of excrement at her.”
Ever since this made all the headlines, Jeremy Clarkson decided to apologize about his column. With a heavy heart he shared a tweet saying that he would ‘rather put his foot in it’.
“In a column I wrote about Meghan, I made a clumsy reference to a scene in ‘Game of Thrones’ and this has gone down badly with a great many people. I’m horrified to have caused so much hurt and I shall be more careful in future.” – Jeremy Clarkson’s apology reads.
“I was very angry with myself. Because in all those controversial days on ‘Top Gear’, I was accused of all sorts of things. But it was very rarely sexism.” – Jeremy Clarkson continued his apology on Instagram. “I was mortified and so was everyone else. My phone went mad. Very close friends were furious. Even my own daughter took to Instagram to denounce me. The Sun quickly apologized and I tried to explain myself. But still, there were calls from people to sack me and charge me with a hate crime. More than 60 MPs demanded someone take some action against me. ITV, who make ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’, and Amazon, who make the ‘Farm Show’ and the ‘Grand Tour’, were incandescent.”
“I, therefore, wrote to everyone who works with me saying how sorry I am. Then on Christmas morning, I emailed Harry and Meghan in California to apologize to them too.” – Jeremy Clarkson continued. “I said that what they have been saying on TV baffled me. But that the language I’d used in my column was disgraceful and that I was profoundly sorry.”
