On Tuesday, 31st January 2023, the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood kicked off its Shaping Us project, which is designed to emphasise the importance of the early years of a child’s development.
The Princess decided to make a trip to Leeds in order to support the city’s goal of transforming into the most desirable place in the UK for youngsters to call home.
Kate seemed to detect the familiar two-note salutation as she waved and smiled at the people who had gathered at Leeds Kirkgate Market to catch a glimpse of her.
Despite the wolf-whistle, the Princess maintained her composure and continued to walk towards the unveiling of her new early years campaign.
Kate did not show signs of being angered by the occurrence, however it happened only a few weeks after it was revealed that wolf-whistling could potentially be prohibited through the introduction of a new charge of badgering individuals in public places – with maximum jail sentences of up to two years.
She conversed with merchants at the marketplace in order to promote the long-term initiative. Kate said that this project is her ‘life’s work’ and she desires that it will have a positive impression on how people look at children in the early stages of their life.
The fans on social media praised Kate for the manner of her response. This was on the basis that the action could have easily escalated into something serious had the Princess of Wales decided to respond.
One person wrote: “Great response. She would have seen funny side,” while another person stated: “She just laughed, which was a good response. Wolf-whistling is a compliment, unless it’s done repeatedly and aggressively.”
