WWE Friday Night SmackDown comes to us tonight. Below you’ll see the live results and links to recaps of every segment.
Segment 1: There’s a delay to the start of the show, several seconds of a black screen, and when the intro starts it’s with a stutter or two. Not sure if that’s a real glitch or part of the hacking gimmick that’s been going on. Mojo Rawley then introduces NFL legend and WrestleMania guest host Rob Gronkowski to the ring. They made it pretty clear that the two of them would be a tag team going forward. King Corbin interrupted to talk trash to Gronk but Elias interrupted him. This gave Gronk and Mojo a chance to push Corbin to the mat, and Elias tossed him from the ring. Gronk then said that though he doesn’t have the power to make matches, as the host of WrestleMania he advocates an Elias/Corbin match.
Segment 2: In the night’s first match, Daniel Bryan and Drew Gulak took on Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro. It was a pretty spirited match and a fairly regular affair, being a two-segment bout between four really good wrestlers. In the end, the babyfaces outsmarted them, with Gulak holding Cesaro in place for a flying sunset flip from Bryan that got the victory.
Segment 3: Sami Zayn confronted Drew Gulak and Daniel Bryan backstage about the way they won the tag match. Bryan challenges Sami to put the Intercontinental title on the line against him. Sami agrees but only if Drew Gulak can defeat Shinsuke Nakamura next week. The faces agreed to this. Then, Paige spoke to us but was quickly interrupted by Bayley. Paige then announced that at WrestleMania, Bayley will be defending her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship against Lacey Evans, Naomi, Dana Brooke, Tamina and her own ally Sasha Banks in a six-pack challenge. This was followed by airing the WrestleMania 30 Bray Wyatt/John Cena match.
Segment 4: Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross are backstage and Alexa challenges Asuka to a singles match next week, wanting retribution for her sneak attack. The Miz and John Morrison host an episode of the Dirt Sheet talking about how they don’t seem to have No. 1 Contender’s to their titles. They dressed up as New Day, the Usos and Heavy Machinery fans to mock them. Then they faced Heavy Machinery in a non-title match. Dolph Ziggler showed up and flashed some images of himself and Mandy Rose on the big screen to get under Otis’ skin. It works and he chases Ziggler off before getting himself DQ’d taking a steel chair to Miz & Morrison.
Segment 5: Then came the Roman Reigns & Bill Goldberg contract signing. They took some potshots, brought up Roman’s disparaging tweet from January, tossed the table aside and stared each other down menacingly.
