WWE Friday Night SmackDown is about to conclude. Our final segment is the contract signing for the WWE Universal Championship. Roman Reigns comes out first, then out comes Bill Goldberg. They each toss the leather chairs away, wanting to stand. Michael Cole asks Bill when he came out with his Universal title to ask “Who’s next”, did he expect Roman to answer? Goldberg he was actually hoping it’d be Roman. Reigns brings up John Cena and the Undertaker and others who have gone up against them and lost. Goldberg will be just like them.
A tweet from January is flashed up where in response to a fan asking about a pad that’s on the stage for his entrance where he punches down against the steel. You’re not supposed to be able to see that pad, the camera always conceals this pad but live it’s very noticeable. Funnily they bring up the tweet without really going into much detail as to what it’s talking about. But Reigns ended the tweet by making a crack about Goldberg headbutting lockers before his entrance.
Cole asks Roman why he would do that. It’s implied to be a crack at Bill but this too is something they don’t really explain. It’d probably make him sound too stupid to mention that he headbutts steel doors and busts himself open and gives himself concussions immediately before matches sometimes. So I can get they don’t wanna do that but it sorta begs the question as to why they would bring this up in the first place in that case, I feel like to the casual fan a lot of context is missed here. Anyway Reigns says, “Why take that shot? Why not?” Says he doesn’t see a legend before him he just sees a bitch who hasn’t earned his title.
Roman Reigns then quickly signs the contract.
Goldberg says “Listen punk, I’ve been destroying steel doors all across the world for years with that headbutt”. Bill says coming WrestleMania, Roman will be the next victim. He then signs as well and then tosses the table aside. Roman Reigns & Bill Goldberg then stare each other down intensely as you can hear the director calling for one camera cut after another. Yeah, I’m willing to say the glitches tonight were more due to the crew they had on this show then any sorta gimmick stuff, I sure can’t see them doing that one on purpose.
