There were plenty of stories over the years about the atmosphere backstage at the WWE was like walking on egg shells as employees kept their heads down to avoid Vince McMahon’s wrath or firing.
One of the things Triple H and Stephanie McMahon wanted to bring in was a family type of atmosphere where it was fun to come to work, but according to Mike Johnson at PWInsider that energy is waning and people backstage are back to walking on eggshells.
The reason for this is apparently the uncertainty of the sale of the WWE and what it’ll mean to everyone working there.
It’s something that has everyone from the fans on up to the top brass concerned one way or another, and Triple H talked about it during the Elimination Chamber Press Conference
It’s about the passion
Triple H summed it up as being out of his control so he tries not to worry about that. Instead, he focused on being good as long as they can continue putting on a show for fans.
“Depends on who’s buying, I suppose. What the offer is. What the outcome is. Stay out of it, to me. And that’s not a compound answer.
“I have the greatest gig in the world. I helped tonight in some small way… create the magic we did here tonight. And to me, it’s the best gig on the planet.
“As long as we get to do this, as long as we get to create it, as long as we get to do our jobs, and we get to go out there and put our passion on display, as long as our talent can put their passion on display and do what we do, I’m good.”
This was the perfect answer as Triple H avoided saying anything that’s upset McMahon while explaining his love for the business.
His outlook could be tested sooner rather than later as Nick Kahn has said how they are hopeful to sell the WWE within a few months, and there are reports that there have already been offers made.
The biggest issue is whenever there’s a new owner of any company they tend to bring in their own people because they’re already familiar with what they want and expect.
This generally means that the current employees are let go and the dynamic of the workplace changes, but given wrestling is a different beast than other companies, the future buyer would be wise to keep the current structure in place.
