Orange Cassidy & Danhausen were unable to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships at AEW Revolution, and that’s fine. Cassidy remains the All-Atlantic Champion, and it felt odd to not defend his belt at the PPV. Always a fighting champion, he heard the complaints of Jay Lethal – who felt Cassidy & Danhausen are the reason that he doesn’t hold tag team gold, and wants his latest chance to become All-Atlantic Champion here tonight. This is not a fresh match, with Lethal & Cassidy quickly becoming rivals with a 1-1 record between them, and Lethal looks to prove he’s the better man here tonight.
Jay Lethal Forced To Fight Alone Tonight
Before this match could begin, referees would keep Jeff Jarrett, Sonjay Dutt & Satnam Singh in the back – ensuring this is a clean title match. Lethal would rush in and get taken to the mat with a side headlock takeover. Cassidy would try to keep Lethal on the mat – taking a very serious approach to this grudge match. Lethal would slip free and regroup out on the floor.
Cassidy would avoid a quick Lethal Injection attempt and try for Beach Break only to be countered. Lethal Combination was blocked, and a second attempt at the Lethal Injection was met with a low kick to the face. Cassidy sent Lethal to floor, and tried to a diving DDT – with Lethal catching Cassidy before the champion slipped free and push Lethal into the ring post.
Lethal would respond by shoving Cassidy into the ring steps knee first, before hitting a Dragon Screw in the ropes. Setting up the knees for the Figure Four Leg Lock is wise, and Lethal would take some time to strut in the ring. Cassidy was recovering on the floor, and was run into the ring post with a deadly kneebreaker – potentially taking Cassidy’s speed away for the rest of the match.
Back in the ring, Lethal would hit a series of elbow drops right to the hurt knee, before just kicking Cassidy in the hamstrings. Lethal would apply a Step Over Leg Lock in the middle of the ring, but wasted time following up and took a Brainbuster as a result. Cassidy would head to the apron and up to the top rope, being caught by some quick strikes from Lethal.
Orange Cassidy Remains Red Hot In 2023
A superplex from Lethal would be attempted, but Cassidy was able to shove Lethal off and hit a Diving DDT. Cassidy hurt his knee on the impact, but was still able to hit the Satellite DDT. Orange Punch would be planned, but Cassidy’s knee gave out – and Lethal quickly moved into the Figure Four Leg Lock.
Cassidy was able to survive until he reached the ropes, and would brawl with Lethal on the apron – sending him in with a lariat. Lethal would catch a slingshot attempt, and nailed the Lethal Combination. Hail to The King Elbow Drop was blocked as Cassidy got his knees up, but as Cassidy tried for the Orange Punch – he was plucked from the sky with a cutter for a two count.
Lethal Injection was attempted, but the damage to the shoulder was key in preventing the move. Moving as quick as he could, Cassidy would nail the Orange Punch – and this match was over. This puts Orange Cassidy at a 15 singles match win streak, being as hot as he’s ever been in AEW. After the match, Jeff Jarrett attacked from behind hitting The Stroke – and smashing his guitar over the already hurt knee of Cassidy,
Ricky Starks Ambushed By BULLET CLUB Member Juice Robinson
Ricky Starks had already defeated Chris Jericho to start his year, but at AEW Revolution he proved it was no fluke. Getting two wins over a former AEW World Champion is a great way for Starks to get back into the title hunt, having taken current champion MJF to his limits in 2022. Tonight, we will hear from The Absolute One, as he has a chance to celebrate his huge victory on TBS.
He’s been asked what is next – and he’s not sure. Starks isn’t exactly sure, and before he could answer – the BULLET CLUB theme song would hit. Juice Robinson would hit the ring, hitting the Left Hand of God & Pulp Friction. It was rumoured Robinson had left BULLET CLUB, but he appears to still be in the faction – and ready to start an AEW branch.
