The Crown has faced criticism for portraying the last moments of Princess Diana and now faces the possibility of receiving more negative feedback due to its depiction of her final movements leading up to the car accident that caused her death.
The Crown Slammed For Their Portrayal Of Princess Diana-‘I Find It Grossly Insensitive’
Recent photos reveal that the Ritz Hotel in Paris, where the princess spent her final night, has been replicated at Elstree Studios. Along with this, the images also display two French police vehicles, a hearse, and a black Mercedes like the one in which the princess passed away, parked nearby.
According to Angela Levin, a royal biographer, filming in the vicinity of Diana’s death was unnecessary and caused emotional pain.
Debbie Frank, a friend and astrologer of Diana, also expressed her disapproval, stating that it was insensitive and would negatively impact the princess’s sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
This is understandable in light of the following reasons. First of all, William and Harry had to walk behind their mother’s coffin at a very young age. Therefore, this is not going to go down well with them as it could lead to previous memories coming to the surface.
Secondly, in his memoir, Spare, Harry made it clear that he struggled to deal with the trauma that emerged following his mother’s death. This included driving through the tunnel where his mother had died.
The response on social media was one of outrage. Large numbers of people were horrified that such a storyline could be allowed to go ahead, especially since it was the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death only last year.
Not only that, but given Meghan Markle had given her controversial interview with The Cut to coincide with this, people could not fathom the decision made by the show.
One person wrote: “Like most people, I find it grossly insensitive that Netflix is continuing to portray 1 version of events, with added “probable” events and conversations.”
While another person stated: “Harry uses his mother as a platform for sympathy. William uses her to empower his and Kates platform for mental health awareness. Crown is now using it for ratings. just let her rest, time to move on.”
Time will tell how the storyline ends up being received, but based on what we have seen so far, things are not looking very good. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
