Tonight, we see Roman Reigns defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes for WrestleMania 39. While it was clear that Reigns would defend the belts at WrestleMania, his opponent was unclear.
For a while, it looked like WWE was hoping to get a legend for his opponent, with Reigns cousin – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. This didn’t end up being the case – and Reigns is unclear how close WWE came to making this match happen, as he doesn’t worry about details like that as champion.
Roman Reigns Leaves Setting Up Big Matches To Paul Heyman
While speaking with Ariel Helwani of BTSport – Reigns would be asked about the planned WrestleMania 39 encounter with The Rock – which was even teased on Young Rock. Reigns would admit that he doesn’t handle business like that, and doesn’t know how close things actually came – as that’s Paul Heyman’s job.
“I don’t really know that. That’s more of a Wise Man thing. Some of this stuff, I don’t necessarily want on my plate. That’s why having a special counsel is so brilliant because we’re able to sift through the things, and filter the things that I need to worry about and the things that I don’t need to worry about. This weekend is a great example of that.”
In general, Reigns is simply focused on his role in the company – and is truly dedicated to WWE.
“I’m so thoroughly tied into what I’m doing within the WWE. That’s why you haven’t seen me in a movie, why you haven’t seen me cameo in this or that.
They are available, I can do that stuff anytime I want. Even with where I’m not on every loop, I’m not doing all the house shows, there are particular shows that I do. I’m never out, I’m always in. If I’m not producing, I’m directing. I’m always part of it. I’m always thinking and grinding Bloodline. It never shuts off. For me, it’s a built in situation.”
