Last night at Wrestlemania 36, fans were greated to a unique and cinematic matchup, the Boneyard Match between The Undertaker and AJ Styles. After underestimating the deadman, Styles found himself in a 6 foot deep hole, and Undertaker would bury him alive. While Gallows and Anderson were there to back him up, Gallows was thrown off the top of a barn, and Anderson was likely set ablaze. With no one to dig him up in this remote cemetary, was this the send off for AJ Styles?
AJ Styles Had Plans To Retire Soon
Despite only being 42, and still being one of the best wrestlers in the world today; AJ has been steadily slowing down in the ring. Not wanting to be someone who keeps going long past his time, AJ intially intended to retire at 40, but his WWE success has kept him going for a while longer. After winning the WWE Championship twice, then the United States Championship, and now main eventing Wrestlemania? There isn’t much left for AJ Styles to do.
A Near Perfect Send Off
While most people would want to go out with a huge win, being defeated in an instant classic at Wrestlemania by a legend like The Undertaker is a great way to go out. The final image of the hand of AJ Styles hopelessly sticking out of the grave was haunting, and will be an enduring image in wrestling history. He lost, but only two men have beaten Undertaker on this stage, those being Roman Reigns & Brock Lesnar. AJ joined Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Giant Gonzalzes, and more legends in the loss column.
Styles Is Likely Gone For A While Atleast
Even if this wasn’t the end of his career within WWE, it might be the last time we see AJ Styles for several months. He is a family man, and would likely want to get back to his family during this crisis caused by COVID-19. I’m sure WWE had a proper match planned for these two, and that could be revisited come Summerslam, Survivor Series, or even next year at Wrestlemania 37. Some time away will help AJ Styles come back more popular than ever. Do you think this was the last time we will see AJ Styles wrestle within WWE? Will he be back without explanation on Monday Night RAW? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
