We’re quickly closing in on the second Forbidden Door event from All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling. The first event was a major success, with a main event of Jon Moxley vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi for the Interim AEW World Championship. Tonight, we got two matches announced for this event – coming from Osaka Jo-Hall at NJPW Dominion.
Will Ospreay To Challenge Kenny Omega At Forbidden Door II
The first match announcement came after the opener. Will Ospreay met Lance Archer in a fast paced match for a shot at the IWGP United States Championship, currently held by Kenny Omega. Omega beat Ospreay for the belt at Wrestle Kingdom 17, in what many are still considering the best match of 2023 – despite happening four days into the year.
Ospreay would overcome Archer using four Hidden Blade elbow strikes, earning the title shot. With two major events on the horizon in Forbidden Door & All In – there was room for speculation on when Ospreay would call for his match, given All In is set for Wembley Stadium.
However, Ospreay intends to strike while the irons hot – and would call out Omega for Forbidden Door, giving fans the second match in their rivalry later this month.
Bryan Danielson Calls Out Kazuchika Okada
Another match would come in the form of a challenge later in the show. Blackpool Combat Club members Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli travelled to Japan to join Shota Umino in a challenge for the NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Champions.
Held by Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tomohiro Ishii – this opened up some dream matches for Forbidden Door in itself.
However, it would be Bryan Danielson who made a challenge – calling out Kazuchika Okada for Forbidden Door. Simply put, these are two of the greatest professional wrestlers active today, perhaps of all time.
They have never met in a match, and both are still very much at the top of their games. It’s a simple set up, but a match fans have been craving for years – and could well be the best match of the show.
