During AEW Double or Nothing 2023, fans would see a new TBS Champion crowned. Jade Cargill was successful in defeating Taya Valkyrie, but decided she had more left in the tank.
A second challenge was issued, and this is when she was faced with a returning Kris Statlander – who would crush Jade in under one minute. Having already made her first successful defence, Statlander has proven this was no fluke – but was unsure if she was the correct choice to defeat Cargill.
Kris Statlander Admits To Having Doubts Of Deserving To End The Reign Of Jade Cargill
Appearing on Busted Open Radio, Kris Statlander would speak on her TBS Championship victory. She admitted to having doubts of being the one to end such a dominant reign – but is ready to bring a new look to the championship.
“Very much what I’ve been saying, where I was nervous and I wasn’t sure if I was the one that deserved to be the one to do it. It’s not just because of how much they built her up. She has such incredible star power, she has such a presence to her. People want to see her. I was putting pressure on myself, thinking like ‘How am I going to live up to the type of person and the type of star that she is. She’s undefeated, she’s brought so many outside eyes to wrestling. She’s done so much, and it’s gonna take a while to realize that I don’t have to be the next Jade. I just have to be Kris Statlander, and I’ve got to make my title reign be mine. I can still go out and do events and do things that she did, but I’m not gonna be Jade.”
Cargill now holds a record of 61-2 in AEW, having lost a Battle Royale early in her run – with it not counting against her on-screen winning streak. She has not been seen on AEW programming since Double or Nothing, with a return date unclear at this time. Statlander will remain on TV going forward – set to be a fighting champion.
