It’s been a while since fans of All Elite Wrestling have seen CM Punk in a ring. Suffering a torn tricep during the main event of All Out 2022, Punk would be put on the shelf – and taken off TV due to a suspension.
However, he was always going to return to the ring eventually – and that time is quickly approaching. Punk will return on June 17th for the debut of AEW Saturday Collision. AEW CEO Tony Khan is happy to have one of the companies biggest draws back.
Tony Khan Notes That CM Punk Is A Big Draw For AEW
Tony Khan would speak with Sports Illustrated ahead of the debut of AEW Collision – and stressed that Punk is a big draw for the company.
“We haven’t seen CM Punk in a long time, since All Out last September. He looked great in his last match. To the fans, he’s very important. He’s very important to the company, too. He’s been a big draw for us and historically throughout his career, and the launch of the new show happens to line up with the schedule on his rehab of his triceps injury.
We have an amazing opportunity with AEW on Saturday nights on TNT, starting June 17, and it was truly the brainchild of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and president David Zaslav. He asked about more AEW, specifically Saturday nights, on TNT. When it was pitched to us by TNT, I was so excited. It’s so exciting the timing of Punk’s return from injury coincides with the launch of Collision.”
Punk Will Be In The First Main Event of Collision
We had the announcement of the main event match for the debut episode of AEW Saturday Collision. CM Punk will team with the AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR.
They will face Bullet Club Gold members Jay White & Juice Robinson, as well as the ROH World Television Champion – Samoa Joe. Bullet Club Gold might have added former champions in The Gunns – who assisted White in defeating Ricky Starks last night on AEW Dynamite.
Other names that have been teased for Collision include Andrade El Idolo, former TNT Champion Miro, and former AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa.
