During the Blackjack Battle Royale, Swerve Strickland came extremely close to winning the AEW International Championship. He was the runner up, being the last man eliminated by Orange Cassidy.
Two more men who came close are Big Bill & Trent Beretta – and they will all clash in a Triple Threat match here tonight. It’s expected that whoever prevails tonight will be the next opponent of Cassidy, and given the strain on his body – potentially the man to end his fantastic reign.
Bullet Club Gold Play FTR Like A Fiddle, Ricky Starks Isn’t Done With Jay White
Before this match, two other men who were involved in this battle royale hit the ring, that being Jay White & Juice Robinson of Bullet Club Gold. White said that Double or Nothing was incredible, and Ricky Starks must be feeling incredible after eliminating White & Robinson from that match. However, Starks lost the match at Double or Nothing – just like he lost to Jay White.
Robinson would put his attention to FTR, the AEW World Tag Team Champions. They came to the aid of Starks at the PPV, but Bullet Club Gold knows that Starks has no friends.
FTR are some good ol’ southern boys, and White feels they’re a bit slow – but White didn’t think they were dumb enough to get into the business of Bullet Club Gold. The champions would not stand for this disrespect, and hit the ring as a result.
Robinson would say that FTR aren’t dumb, having come to the ring to apologise and to join Bullet Club Gold. White thought that was a great idea, having FTR become Top Shelf Top Guys.
They only need to ask, and ask politely. White would go to hand the microphone to Harwood, only to drop it. Robinson hit a right hand full of quarters to the jaw, and FTR were rocked and beaten down with a Blade Runner – perhaps setting up a title match in the near future.
Ricky Starks would make the save, and said that next week – White should leave Robinson in the back, and face him like a man on AEW Dynamite.
Tony Khan Announces Return Of CM Punk
AEW is very excited about the upcoming debut of AEW Saturday Night Collision. A proper two hour weekly live show much like AEW Dynamite, Collision is a chance for AEW to push beyond their current ceiling.
Tony Khan has been scattering announcements about this new show, previously announcing that it will be part of the upcoming Canadian tour and the debut episode is set for Chicago. Tonight, we get a bit more information about this upcoming show – and perhaps more hints on who to expect.
Khan would appear himself to share a little more information. The show on June 17th will feature the return of two time AEW World Champion – CM Punk.
This got a mixed reaction from fans – with some ecstatic about his return, and some less than impressed. With the June 17th episode set for Chicago, we can expect him to get a heroes welcome on that night – but his actions after All Out 2022 have tainted the opinion of many AEW fans.
Swerve Strickland Plays The Game Perfectly
Swerve & Trent would form an uneasy alliance as this triple threat match began, trying to cut Big Bill down. Bill would not fall however, and would toss Swerve with a flapjack, and as he rolled to the floor – Trent was run down with a big boot to the face.
Taking the fight to the floor, Bill would continue to dominate both opponents, showing his uncanny power. Swerve would avoid a lawn dart into the post, shoving Bill into the post before Trent hit a spear.
Trent would be taken to the apron by Swerve, taking a knee to the face but blocking a Death Valley Driver. Bill would boot Swerve off the apron, before taking a dropkick and moonsault from Trent.
Back in the ring, Bill tried for a super chokeslam, but was attacked by Swerve & Trent before a giant superplex took them all down to the mat.
Swerve would take a Half & Half Suplex, but Bill ran Trent down with a big boot. Trent narrowly avoided the Swerve Stomp, hitting the running knee strike and a Cradle Piledriver, with Bill breaking the pinfall up.
Bill hit a chokeslam, and Swerve took him out with a stomp before a crucifix pinfall for the victory on Trent. A smart win from Swerve, who could be ready for singles gold in AEW.
