WWE Friday Night SmackDown commences. And we indeed begin with Braun Strowman emerging with the WWE Universal Championship around his waist. They’re already calling him a Universal Monster. They then show a video package of Braun’s match with Goldberg. They basically play the whole match in still form as they show all of the Spears and Powerslams. Braun then says that when opportunity knocks, you answer it. At WrestleMania he did more than answer the door, he knocked it off of it’s hinges. Says Goldberg is a WWE legend for a reason but he took everything he had to dish out and he put Goldberg down for good. Implying that Goldberg really is done with WWE now. Amazingly, Shinsuke Nakamura interrupts.
Shinsuke notably did not have a match at WrestleMania… Braun asks what he wants. Shinsuke recalls Braun saying when opportunity knocks you open the door. Well, “knock knock”! Pause. Nakamura tells him he’s supposed to say “Who’s there”? Well, Shinsuke Nakamura is here. Says the last time we saw Braun, they beat him. Strowman tells him to cut the crap, and tells him to let him enjoy his night on SmackDown as he knock, knock, knocks the crap out of him.
Shinsuke gives a few lines in Japanese and recites a proverb. “The weak are meat and the strong eat”. Seems… more like something Braun himself would say, or more fittingly Ryback. In response, Braun threatens that he’ll get these hands. Cesaro appears behind Braun and Strowman shoves him out of the ring, turns right around into a roundhouse kick from Nakamura. The heels make their leave as Braun is stewing in the ring.
It seems to be implied that Shinsuke Nakamura will thus be challenging for the Universal Title tonight.
It’s kind of funny considering Braun beat Nakamura for the Intercontinental title and handicap match aside, he hasn’t really bounced back in any meaningful way personally… in fact he lost to Drew Gulak in one of his last singles matches and, as mentioned above, didn’t do anything at WrestleMania aside from back up Sami Zayn. So naturally he’s the obvious No. 1 Contender. Granted the only heel on the SmackDown brand who theoretically has apt momentum would be the Fiend and I’m sure they feel it’s too soon to go back to him in the world title picture.
