At the 2020 Royal Rumble, fans got a major surprise when the iconic music of WWE Hall of Famer Edge would hit. Previously retired due to a neck injury, Edge would make his return to the ring – and would intend to retire on his own terms this time.
Since then, he’s pushed hard to give fans as many memorable matches and moments as possible. However, all good things must come to an end – and with his 25th anniversary match against Sheamus set for tomorrows episode of Smackdown Live, it also brings the end of Edge’s current WWE contract.
Edge Confirms His WWE Contract Is Coming To A Close
While speaking with ET Canada ahead of what could be his final match, Edge would admit that age is making it hard to continue in the ring, and confirmed that this is the final match of the contract he signed upon his return in 2020.
“Here’s what I can honestly say, and this isn’t the answer everyone wants. I truly don’t know. I really really, with 100% truth can say I don’t know. That’s strange for me, but I don’t. I really don’t. I’ve put some thought into it, but not a lot. This is the last match on my current contract. I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. I probably won’t know until I get to the locker room that night and decompress, let all the anxiety and tension that I never used to have before I performed, I have now. That’s strange for me and makes it that much harder to do this. I’m going to be 50 in October. It’s not easy anymore. Before, what I used to take for granted to be able to do, now, there is a process and a fallout. There’s a lot. It’s the dream gig, but it’s getting really hard,.”
This leaves two openings. Either Edge has one last big match and retires on his own terms, or he signs a new contract in the middle of the ring – a grand gesture to show fans he has more left in his tank.
