The WWE has taken a lot of heat from fans over the years on how they book different talent and divisions.
Some, like the tag team division, has long been mired as it remained functioning around a handful of teams that traded the titles back and forth.
The same can be said of their women’s division as they have the talent and ability, but for various reasons we only see the same handful of women.
It takes away from what the division can do, and while there have been some strides made, they don’t seem to come often enough.
That can be attributed to a lot of things from the booking to the talent.
More often than not, a women’s match feels rushed, like time was cut from it. That’s a regular complaint that’s gone around for years. Another is they may not have enough talent ready to step in.
Filling the void
Seth Rollins has a unique perspective as his wife, Becky Lynch, is one of the WWE’s top stars and on this past WWE Monday Night Raw on August 28, she had an awesome match against an awesome young talent in Zoey Stark.
But for many fans, the WWE isn’t moving fast enough or hasn’t handled well and it’s something Rollins talked about with Corey Graves on “After the Bell”.
Special thanks to wrestlingnews.co for the transcript.
“I would say 100%. There’s a lot of space to fill there, on RAW, on SmackDown. I think absolutely there is a void. What I sense more than anything is this kind of bubbling little undercurrent from our audience, like they want something fresh and new and they want to have people to get behind. They want it, and I’m not saying these people are coming from NXT. You never know. It might be somebody that steps up, a Chelsea Green, a Piper Niven. You never know. There’s tons of women capable on our main roster at the moment, but there is like this, I’m feeling it. It’s very much like we want something more out of the women. We know it’s there and we can’t wait to see it, but there’s like a growing intrigue. There’s a growing desire to see it.”
He also talked about Stark and Lynch’s match and said he told Stark main eventing Raw was the first of many in her future.
We agree and hope the WWE continues to develop their women’s division and bring us more top tier matches that aren’t limited for this reason or that.
Another Evolution PPV would be nice, and they could even give their women’s division their own brand or show to help get them in front of fans to show what they can do.
