Jon Moxley has stepped up to the plate as AEW International Champion, and doesn’t intend to go down without a fight. In his first week as champion, he would defeat AR Fox & Action Andretti, and later on AEW Collision – he’d come to the aid of Blackpool Combat Club ally Bryan Danielson.
It was a cowardly two man attack from Ricky Starks & Big Bill, and tonight – Moxley defends his belt against the 7 foot tall powerhouse himself in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Jon Moxley Needs To Slay A Giant
Getting a massive ovation from his hometown crowd, Moxley would work his way through the fans before slaying a giant. Bill would make his way to the ring with Ricky Starks in his corner, with it being noted that Bill is 2-0 with Starks in his corner. Starting with some leg kicks, Moxley would force Bill into the corner before being shoved aside with ease.
Moxley would try for a running crossbody, but was caught in a simple Fallaway Slam from Bill. The running splash in the corner would crush Moxley, but he’d come back with a series of lariats.
Bill would stand tall, before sending Moxley to the floor with a big boot. Some brawling would follow, with Bill whipped into the ring steps before Moxley was thrown over the timekeeper’s table.
Moxley would be bleeding – and was slammed down in the middle of the ring before an elbow drop for the two count from Bill.
Unable to keep the champion down, Bill would find himself set up on the top rope before being taken down hard with a Superplex. Moxley would try for the King Kong Lariat, but was taken into the Bossman Slam for a two count by Bill.
Blackpool Combat Club Stands Tall
Bill would be rocked with a big lariat from Moxley, before the Hammer & Anvil elbow strikes would land. Moxley applied a choke – but Bill would drive him into the corner to break free.
A jumping cutter would send Bill to the floor, and Moxley looked to follow with the elbow drop – only for Starks to shove Moxley off the top rope.
Bill would hit the Big Boot, but only got a two count. Danielson rushed to ringside after Starks, and in the ring Bill would hit a chokeslam for a near fall.
Moxley would apply the Triangle Choke from the floor, and moved into the armbar – forcing a submission for the victory. Starks & Danielson would continue to brawl at ringside, and Bill would attack Moxley.
Claudio Castagnoli hit the ring to help his Blackpool Combat Club allies, lifting Big Bill to the apron before watching as Starks & Bill would make their retreat.
Blackpool Combat Club stood together, and it was announced that next week on AEW Grand Slam – Moxley defends the AEW International Championship against Rey Fenix.
Don Callis Targets The Golden Star
Don Callis has succeeded at replacing Kenny Omega as his money maker. At AEW All Out 2023, Omega was crushed by Konosuke Takeshita – a man Omega mentored in DDT Pro Wrestling.
Tonight, Callis intends to reveal his next masterpiece, which could spell danger for another member of the AEW roster as Grand Slam & WrestleDream approach.
Takeshita taught Callis some things about Japanese wrestling during their partnership – namely that the top name in the company is The Ace.
When Takeshita beat Kenny Omega once, he became The Ace. But when he beat him twice in one week? Takeshita became The Alpha. When you’re The Alpha, you take everything that can be taken.
Beating Omega twice broke his body, and now he wants to break his heart. Their next target is someone near and dear to the heart of Omega, former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion – Kota Ibushi. While they are abusing Ibushi – Omega will be stuck home, still licking his wounds after messing with Takeshita.
