Swerve Strickland is about to enter his biggest AEW match to date. Since joining the company, the former WWE NXT North American Champion has filled a few different roles.
Initially put into a tag team with another former WWE NXT standout in Keith Lee – Swerve would become an AEW World Tag Team Champion, but would eventually turn on Lee to go solo.
Now leading the Mogul Embassy faction – Swerve is taking aim at Hangman Page of The Elite – but does have respect for what The Elite have created.
Swerve Strickland Looks Up To The Elite As Trailblazers Of The Industry
While speaking with Under The Ring,Z Swerve Strickland would have the following to say about The Elite.
“Them as talents, they’re second to none in my opinion….because I was on the independent scene when they were really just on fire. When they made it a hot topic. They were just everywhere. It was like a movement. You had to be there type of thing. They’re not as accessible to the independence and like outside of AEW.
So that’s why I say you just had to have been there that time. Especially to be on the shows as a worker alongside them, seeing them in the locker room seeing the type of influence they had on so many of the young talents. The style, the Dragon Gate style of wrestling that they took and captivated and made it their own and Americanized it.
Made it so much more entertaining, and took a lot of American influences, but then they end up finding themselves in it. Making a lot of satire and jokes. Inside jokes that only wrestling fans would know. Then putting it into the bits into the ring. Like, man, they’re truly trailblazers in this industry. I look up to them so much.”
Where In The World Is Keith Lee?
When asked about the blow off match to the Swerve In Our Glory breakup – Swerve still doesn’t know what happened. He’s looking for Keith Lee, who has been sparsely on TV in 2023. Swerve had the following to say about Lee.
“I’m still looking for Keith Lee. Where’s he been? I’ll settle any score, anywhere. It don’t matter to me. It’s almost like those fighters in boxing fights like, ‘Just make the fight. Just make the fight.’ I’m not the booker. I’m not the guy controlling the money on this whole thing. Set the fight, and I’ll be there.”
Swerve Strickland will face Hangman Page on AEW WrestleDream on October 1st, 2023. Who will walk away as the winner? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
