The next chapter for CM Punk looks interesting as there have been rumors swirling that he’s interesting in going back to WWE.
It was previously reported that Punk wanted to return for the Royal Rumble last January and then WrestleMania 39, but that obviously didn’t materialize but it looks like they both get a second chance.
There’s a possibility that Punk will return for Survivor Series in Chicago, Punk’s hometown.
It’s pretty standard for new larger signings to have them debut in their hometown for the largest pop possible.
Coming home
The possibility seems more realistic than expected after Dave Meltzer reported about talks happening between Punk and WWE in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (https://www.f4wonline.com/):
“There have been rumors that it’s happening, but those in WWE have only said that no deal is completed and those close to Punk have told us that it is his intention to return and the two sides are in talks. One would expect if such a deal is made that Survivor Series weekend in Chicago would be the time to do the surprise return.”
This is good news for fans that want him back in the WWE, and it should be interesting to see if he does come back.
With the WWE sending their top talent to NXT to help strengthen their third brand and improve their ratings, we could see him spend some time there to help the fresh talent.
It’s been reported that Punk did help people in AEW, and it was a falling out with a couple that caused his downfall there.
Shawn Michaels has stated that he’s open to having Punk in NXT if he’d want to be there, and we’re sure they’ll put on some fun shows once they get the chance.
Another coup?
From a public relations perspective, it’ll be the WWE’s third big signing away from AEW. While Punk and Jade Cargill don’t have the impact of signing a former EVP and founder like Cody Rhodes, it does send a message that AEW isn’t as good as believed.
The fact Punk would consider going back to the WWE would be used by many as evidence of that, though the fact Triple H is running the creative now instead of Vince McMahon is probably the biggest reason.
This is all speculation at the moment, but that doesn’t mean it can’t or won’t happen. Are you looking forward to CM Punk returning to the WWE? Let us know in the comments below.
