It’s Friday Night! And that can only mean one thing, another iteration of WWE Friday Night SmackDown! Daniel Bryan takes on King Corbin tonight in an attempt at retribution for what went down last week! You are here with us at the Overtimer, where you can expect the in-depth coverage of the show as always. That means a live recap and results, plus previews of everything that’s been announced! They’ve went ahead and advertised more than usual this evening per WWE standards, so let’s get into it!
Daniel Bryan vs. King Corbin
This match pits together two men that are both part of the Men’s Money In The Bank ladder match, both of which having something of a chance of winning. However they’ve already won them before and it’s exceedingly rare that anyone wins this match twice. Technically Carmella had to win hers twice in a row but that was a bit of an odd circumstance… and Edge has cashed in MITB twice but the second time he more or less just stole the briefcase. Going by how this is normally done, it’d be the first two-time winner since CM Punk if they managed it. That’s going back ten years.
As for this match itself, it’s a direct result of what went down last week. King Corbin qualified for Money In The Bank by defeating Daniel Bryan’s friend Drew Gulak, and he did not do it alone. Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro attacked Bryan from behind and pulled him into the crowd area, and the distraction of this allowed Corbin to get the win over Gulak. With Bryan disposed of off-screen, Shinsuke and Cesaro joined Corbin in a three-on-one beatdown in the ring.
It would seem that Sami Zayn is self-quarantining at the moment and thus isn’t expected to be on SmackDown any time soon. With the IC Champ off of television, I guess Cesaro and Shinsuke are going to be Corbin’s lackeys instead for the foreseeable future. It’d be hard to imagine that we wouldn’t see them get involved in this match. As for who wins, it’s hard to say given that they’re both involved in the same match. But I think they probably see Corbin as needing more rebuilding after Mania than Bryan would, plus they’ll want to further establish his association with Cesaro and Shinsuke, assuming that will indeed be a thing. So they’ll probably screw him over here. Corbin to take the win.
