WWE Friday Night SmackDown is soon at hand. Among the bouts for tonight, we’ll see Tamina team up with Lacey Evans to take on Sasha Banks and Bayley. Here at the Overtimer, as always you can expect an in-depth coverage of the show. That means live results from the show as they come, plus links to detailed recaps of each segment, and of course a preview of everything we can expect to see here this evening. There is way more announced in advance for this show than usual so let’s get to it!
Tamina & Lacey Evans vs. Sasha Banks & Bayley
Tamina made her return to SmackDown basically in coinciding with the beginning of the empty arena era. And since then, she’s been a constant threat and a thorn in the side of WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley, and of course her buddy Sasha Banks by association. In a few days she’ll be getting her one-on-one title shot against Bayley at Money In The Bank. The champ has clearly been afraid of being face-to-face with the powerhouse challenger and has tried her best to duck her, to no avail.
Last week, we saw Sasha Banks and Bayley put together a backstage ambush in which they ganged up on Tamina, only for Lacey Evans to come in and make the save. Evans herself is of course a long-time enemy of the duo, and in particular she’s had it out for Sasha Banks for weeks. She even went so far as to write Sasha’s name down on her right hand, letting her know that she quite literally had a Woman’s Right with her name on it. Tonight, the rather weird pairing of Tamina and Lacey team up to take on the Women’s division’s top heel force.
Another key thing is of course the fact that Sasha Banks and Bayley have not been on the same page as of late. They’re very definitely heading towards a break-up, it’s been said that at one point the intent was to go ahead and do it in time for them to have a WrestleMania match but with the circumstances they decided not to rush. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some miscommunication cost them here. Tamina and Lacey over, as the challenger gets a last-minute surge of momentum heading into her title shot.
