Two weeks ago on NXT, we would see Imperium interrupt ‘The Newly Bro Show’ with Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher. Fabian Aichner & Marcel Bartel would feel like the champions were bismerching the good name of the NXT Tag Tam Championships, and now look to take the titles for their own. Would the newly formed duo of Riddle & Thatcher be able to once again defend their titles?
Imperium Show Their Tag Team Control
Action would start with Thatcher & Bartel locking up, with Thatcher able to wrestle Bartel down to the mat and attempt to get an early pinfall. Bartel would not be so easily beat, and would counter with some technical wrestling of his own, applying a tight head scissors. This wouldn’t work, as Thatcher would escape and lock Bartel in the Bow & Arrow lock, which Bartel would slip out of into a pinning predicament. The technical beauty would end with Thatcher would go for some strikes and an armbar. Aichner would finally find his way into the match, with Riddle not far behind.
Riddle would be caught out of the air into the position for a Samoan Drop, but would fight into a rear naked choke on Aichner, who would force he way out of the submission only. He wouldn’t gain control however, as Riddle hit a big Gutwrench Suplex sending Aichner into the corner to tag Bartel, who would take a big Exploder Suplex followed by a PK. Riddle would take his focus off of Bartel to knock Aichner off the apron before going for the Broton, which ended with knees to the back of Riddle. Aichner would be back into the match and hit a big Tilt-A-Whirl Backbreaker for a near fall, before locking in a submission to grind Riddle down.
Thatcher Loses His Patience With Matt Riddle
After this assault, Riddle would be desperate for the tag as Imperium would use their superior team work to isolate him. A roundhouse kick to the head of Bartel would give him a chance to make that tag, but trying to take Bartel out with a Monkey Flip was a mistake, as Bartel would be sent into Thatcher who would be knocked to the floor.
This would piss off Thatcher, who would abandon the match, leaving Riddle on his own in a two on one assault. Riddle would be forced to catch a second win, and prevent the Europen Bomb and hit Aichner with the Bro-To-Sleep before catching Bartel in mid air to hit the Final Flash knee strike. He would be unable to capitalize, as Aichner would recover and hit a big spinebuster followed by a kick from Bartel. This left Riddle open for the European Bomb, which would grant us new NXT Tag Team Champions.
After only a few weeks teaming with Thatcher, Riddle has failed Pete Dunne and lost their titles. Will Riddle & Thatcher be able to regroup and win the titles them back on the rematch, or has that ship already sailed? Could Imperium have beaten Riddle & Thatcher without the miscommunication?
