Out of the recently released talent from WWE, there was a large amount of squandered talent in the group. While names like EC3 and Rusev stood out the most, as they had main event potential written all over them, there was another man who should have been a bigger star. This was Erick Rowan.

Months Of Build Gone To Waste

Prior to his release from the company, WWE had spent some serious time making him into the next big heel monster on Monday Night RAW. However, due to WWE always needing an odd angle on everything they touched. He would come alongside a mysterious caged animals. Any attempts to remove the covering of this cage would send him into a furious rage. Fans had started to wonder what was inside this cage, and it would eventually be revealed to be a giant spider. The week after the reveal, this spider would be literally squashed by now WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, and Rowan would soon follow.
That was his final major TV appearance before being let go from the company. Prior to this, Rowan was also used poorly in the 2020 Royal Rumble when he would be eliminated in seconds by Brock Lesnar. Another came when he would lose to Aleister Black two weeks in a row on Monday Night RAW.
There always comes a time when a monster heel needs to be beat, but this should come at a PPV. The intention might have always been to use him to elevate Drew McIntyre, but if that was the case; they botched this horribly as it simply made Rowan look bad, with McIntyre gaining very little from this.

What Is Next For Erick Rowan?

Now taking the name Erick Redbeard, there hasn’t been much chatter on him. However, a close friend in Brodie Lee seems to have an idea where he will go next. While speaking with SEScoops, he would say the following. “I think Erick Rowan is almost tailor-made for a Japan run. I don’t know if we’ll ever find each other over there because that would be pretty cool. Or if we’ll find each other in AEW, who knows? I think there’s going to be a lot of opportunity for these guys.”
Rowan had trained at the Pro Wrestling NOAH dojo early in his career, and with being a company always looking for names, it could be a very good fit for both men. He previously used the name Thoruf Marius in Japan, but is unlikely to return to that branding. Where do you hope to see Big Red pop up in the near future? A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
