While last year it was one of AEW’s pay per view events, Fyter Fest is now a two night event for the company. Last year it was headlined by a six man tag between Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks & Laredo Kid, Pentagon Jr, and Rey Fenix as well as Jon Moxley vs. Joey Janela in a non-sanctioned match. The company has grown majorly since then, and this years Fyter Fest shows this exactly.
From Buy In To Main Event Of Night One Of Fyter Fest
The biggest match on the first night of action is the match for the AEW Tag Team Championships. Kenny Omega & Adam Page vs. The Best Friends (Trent Barretta & Chuck Taylor) will clash, as Omega & Page look to keep their reign going. One year ago at the 2019 Fyter Fest, Best Friends were in the Buy In of the show, where they would defeat S.C.U and Private Party in a triple threat tag team match. Now they’re in the main event, facing off perhaps the best ‘thrown together’ team wrestling has seen in decades. Would their chemistry and experience finally end the reign of The Elite?
Two More AEW Championship Matches
The tag team championships aren’t the only ones being defended, as Hikaru Shida defends her AEW Women’s Championship against Penelope Ford. This likely would have been a title shot for Britt Baker, but instead she’ll be feeding messages to the commentary team and hiding from Big Swole; as she is injured. Ford has been built up as a contender in short time, but Shida looks unstoppable following the win over Nyla Rose at Double Or Nothing.
Cody will also defend the TNT Championship, against his biggest threat he’s had since the match for the vacant title against Lance Archer. He has beaten Jungle Boy, Marq Quen and Ricky Starks, but now Jake Hager takes his shot at Cody. They’ve clashed many times in their time in WWE, but never with any type of spotlight. Few believe Hager will end the reign of Cody, but anything can happen with the backing of The Inner Circle.
More From Fyter Fest
While the three title matches are the big draws on this night, we have two non-title tag matches for this card. Private Party will face Santana & Ortiz, looking to improve their standing in the stacked tag team division. With Matt Hardy acting as their mentor, this is one of their biggest matches yet, as they look to show they deserve that attention from a tag team legend. Rounding out of the card is MJF & Wardlow vs. Jurassic Express. The last time people underestimated Jungle Boy vs. MJF, they stole the show at Revolution, and Wardlow vs. Luchasarus was perhaps the best match from Dynamite last week. This will be one to pay attention too, if not just as the next step in the progressions of Jungle Boy & MJF.
