Tonight on WWE Raw, It’s a safe bet that Seth Rollins will do an appearance, but which Rollins will we see? The Monday Night Messiah or something else?
There’s a reason for this thought process, and it goes back to his match with Rey Mysterio at Extreme Rules. We have to admit, we were curious how they’d pull it off — pun intended.
While the ending was predictable and many believe this was Rey’s farewell match, Rollins’ reaction may mean significantly more for his character.
The epiphany
At seeing Rye’s eye, Rollins got sick and continued to retch until Rey was taken away. He looked horrified at what he’d done, but his expression shifted to horror when the enhancement talent fans turned on him, booing and giving him the thumbs down.
But it was the banging on the plexiglass (they’re now referred to as boards, a reference to hockey which makes sense) and some giving threatening gestures that really seemed to wake him up.
It looks like Rollins will have to admit his efforts thus far have met with failure with the “fans” booing him even harder now.
His character is officially unredeemable and should be locked in as a heel for the rest of his career. Or this year, as most of us have short memories.
And this is where we think it’s going to get interesting.
On one hand, he could try to make a fake face turn to prove himself, and then go back to heel more hardcore when the booing continues.
On the other hand, and this is what we feel is most likely, he’ll appear tonight and say he didn’t want this, that it was either Rey of him and his mission to prove he’s the leader Raw deserves. Feeling he’s proven himself, he’ll go further down the rabbit hole.
A bigger target than ever
With Rey once more out of the picture, the target on Rollins is even bigger, but who will be there to go after him?
Dominic Mysterio is the obvious choice, but Rollins would destroy him. Humberto Carrillo would be in the same situation.
That leaves Aleister Black, and since he already has a win over Rollins, it’d be an epic feud that could last until Hell in a Cell where it’d end in style.
This leaves Murphy and Austin Theory to continue facing off with Owens, Carrillo, and Dominic.
This is one storyline they’re doing that makes sense, do they have the bodies to pull it off and give us fresh matches and perspectives? That’ll be the key as few of us want to see Rollins and Owens part two.
