Mickie James is one of the few members of the old women’s division who has persisted in WWE. An absolute veteran, multiple time women’s champion, and someone who has proven she can still go in the ring, you would think WWE would be ecstatic to have her back in the ring, but that was not the case.
After a year long hiatus from the ring due to injury, Mickie James would return to Monday Night RAW last night in a very muted role, and is not happy about this.
Mickie James Got Glossed Over To Push The Samoa Joe vs. Seth Rollins Angle
Her big return to the ring came in the form of a match with Natalya, which could have been really good. However, James didn’t get a televised entrance, lost via count-out just three minutes into the match, and it was mostly seen in the background as the focus was Seth Rollins interrogating Samoa Joe at the commentary desk.
During an interview with Denise Salcedo, James was asked how it felt to get back in the ring after being out for over a year due to injury.
“It’s a bit like … it feels good to be back. I feel better than ever. From a personal standpoint, I feel great. I’m excited to be back. I’m excited about new opportunities, new matches. As far as my return, I’m a little bit disappointed. I’m a little bit … you know. But, you can’t win ’em all … I guess. You can’t knock it out of the park every time.”
James is rightfully upset in this situation, and considering Monday Night RAW is a three hour long show, they didn’t have to do it this way. There were many better ways to run both the angle with Joe & Rollins, while giving Natalya & James a chance to go out and show that they’re still top talents in the WWE Women’s Division.
Do you think WWE handled Mickie James’ return poorly? Should they treat their veteran talents better, or should the focus be on building up new stars in the women’s division? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
