At Summerslam, Dominik Mysterio is going to make his proper wrestling debut in a huge way. He will face Seth Rollins in a grudge match, looking to get revenge for his father, Rey Mysterio, who has been seriously injured in the storyline by Rollins. He has been involved in matches in the past, even having a ladder match occur over the custody of him, and having delivered a 619 to Brock Lesnar alongside his father.
Despite all this, and going into this match under the name Dominik Mysterio, this is not his long term plan. Following Summerslam, after he gets more training he will become Prince Mysterio.
While Rey Mysterio is still one of the top luchadors in the world, and a once in a lifetime talent, he won’t be around forever. Everyone will meet the end of their in-ring career eventually, but he doesn’t have to worry about the Mysterio name.
Dominik Will Be Carrying On The Mysterio Legacy
Dominik already has his gear and mask designed for the Prince Mysterio character, and the mask will likely be very similar to that of his fathers. “We actually talked about it. He definitely has to continue with the Mysterio dynasty. It’s in his genes,” said Rey Mysterio. “I think we’re going to incorporate that eventually and create a good story so the fans can understand the rich history behind lucha libre and the masks.”
Even the ring name of Prince Mysterio is smart, as Rey means King in Spanish, with the ring name essentially meaning Prince Of Mystery. He could use the spanish word for Prince, that being Principe, but people will get the point with him keeping it more simple. It’s no Rey Mysterio Jr. Jr. or El Hijo Del Rey Mysterio Jr., but it will work.
We will get a good taste of what Dominik is capable of this Sunday at Summerslam, but it might be awhile before we see his full potential. He has huge shoes to fill, but with his father likely staying in WWE to watch him grow? It should go very smoothly for him.
