G1 Climax 30 Night 7 A Block action saw five-time former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and the winner of G1 Climax 22 and G1 Climax 24 Kazuchika Okada (CHAOS) face Suzuki-Gun member Taichi.
Okada came into the match after a G1 Climax 30 Night 5 defeat to former IWGP Heavyweight Champion “Switchblade” Jay White, while Taichi was able to sneak out a victory against Bullet Club member Yujiro.
The last match between the two took during The New Beginning in Sapporo on February 2, 2020 in Taichi’s home Prefecture of Hokkaido. Okada would win the match in 30 minutes and 53 seconds, but the contest would go a long way in establishing Taichi’s confidence as a heavyweight competitor.
Taichi wouldn’t let Okada out of the breaks clean, immediately going after his opponents hurt back, attempting to weaken the base of all of his offense. It’s of no secret that Okada is one of the most skilled wrestlers in the world, and Taichi went to every length in his attempts to defeat him and move to a perfect 4-0 record to begin his G1 Climax 30 campaign.
Okada was in much need of a win to bring his record to 2-2, giving him a fighting chance to compete for the A Block crown without having to run the table.
After a hard-fought battle Okada was able to gain the fall over Taichi by referee stoppage with his Money Clip submission technique at the 17 minutes and 3 seconds mark.
With the victory, Okada puts life back into his G1 Climax 30 campaign, while Taichi suffers his first set back. However, Taichi remains in a strong position as he attempts to do the unthinkable and advance to the tournament finals.
Okada remains one of the favorites, but he will have to make up ground over those with only one loss on the table.
