Moments After The October 10, 2020 G1 Climax 30 Night 14 Headline Match Began via New Japan World

The G1 Climax 30 Night 14 headline match saw former eight-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, G1 Climax 17, G1 Climax 25, and G1 Climax 28 winner Hiroshi Tanahashi face former two-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion and G1 Climax 18 winner and CHAOS member Hirooki Goto.

Tanahashi was coming off a key loss to former IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Champion’ and Bullet Club member Evil during G1 Climax 30 Night 12, leaving him at 6 points. While Goto was able to defeat fellow CHAOS member Yoshi-Hashi on the same night.

    G1 Climax 30: Tanahashi v Goto

Despite only defeating Tanahashi one time in their previous twelve singles matches, Goto came into the match with an edge. While Tanahashi was able to control the early portion of the match, Goto didn’t hesitate to grab the advantage when it came his way.

Tanahashi was able to make his way back, as he always has throughout his career. He put pressure on Goto that needed the former G1 Climax winner to answer several important questions.

Goto was able to respond with a serious of high impact offense, shocking Tanahashi, and giving Goto the opening he needed.

Goto would be able to gain the fall at the 13 minutes and 38-second mark moving his G1 Climax 30 point total to 8. The loss all but officially eliminates Tanahashi from advancing to the finals as he remains at 6.

Goto would need a great deal of help to advance to the finals, but it isn’t out of the question. Goto reached the G1 Climax 26 Finals under similar circumstances.

Despite not getting the results he’s wanted, Tanahashi has remained in good form, and looks as if he can still defeat anyone on his best day in the ring. What remains to be seen is how many top-shelf days Tanahashi can dig up in singles competition throughout the remainder of his career.
