While not having any effect on who could win the B Block of G1 Climax 30, the final day match between former two-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion, five-time NEVER Openweight Champion, and CHAOS member Hirooki Goto and former two-time IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Juice Robinson was important to determine the pecking order in possible future singles title matches.
Goto came into the match with 8 points and was in the running to advance to the G1 Climax 30 Finals up until the final several days of bracket competition.
Juice started his campaign, and return to in-ring action since the beginning of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) delay fast, but fell into a slump that derailed his aspirations of reaching 10 points.
As always the case when they wrestle, the match was physical and full of high impact offense with neither backing down from contact despite the match only being for pride. Goto seemed to control most of the match, but couldn’t unlock the right combination to put Juice away.
However, Juice was able to show his fighting spirit and fought back throughout using his punches to stagger the tough Goto on multiple occasions.
After a chain of offense, Juice was able to gain the fall at the 12 minutes and 7 seconds mark with his Pulp Friction technique to end his G1 Climax 30 campaign with 8 points. Juice will likely turn his attention to the upcoming World Tag League so he can battle for a title opportunity in the near future with FinJuice partner, David Finlay.
Goto finishes his campaign at 8 points, likely disappointing due to his fast start and the form he showed against top competition. Goto will also likely turn his attention to World Tag League, yet it is unknown who he would team with during this year’s tournament if he is in the field.
