Fred Yehi & Tracy Williams know each other very well, both being members of Drew Gulak’s old faction, Catch Point. This was a group of likeminded wrestlers, who wanted to prove they were the best pure wrestlers around. Sound familiar?
These are two men who were built for the Pure Championship. Yehi overcame Silas Young in the first round, Williams knocking off Rust Taylor. Williams was always a favorite to win this championship, but The SavageWeight won’t make this easy.
Fred Yehi Loses Two Rope Breaks
The Code of Honor would be adhered too, but with a Catch Point flair added. They know their past, they’ve teamed for years, but now it’s time to go to war. Yehi went right to work on the hurt shoulder of Williams, before taking Williams to the mat with a headlock before trying for a cover.
Their past would show early as even simple moves were well scouted. Yehi would again go after the arm, but Williams slipped behind for a takedown, but Yehi got a knee trip and got back on top. Another lockup, and Williams came out on top and applied a hammerlock, forcing Yehi to the ropes, and wasting him a rope break.
They’d get back to it, Williams grabbed the arm again and Yehi reached for the ropes. Before he realized his mistake, he used his second rope break, only one left.
Yehi got physical with some shoulder tackles and chops, but Williams came back with some kicks and took Yehi to the mat for the Kimura. This hold would be fought, Yehi getting back to his feet and throwing Williams across the ring with a suplex as we went to a commercial break.
Tracy Williams Struggles For Control
During the break, Yehi would get Williams to use one of his rope breaks, but Williams came back with a Hammerlock Suplex to get back on top. He’d pummel Yehi in the corner with hard palm strikes, and a quick single arm suplex before applying the chinlock. Williams had full control, and hit a snapmare, a kick and a forearm to the jaw, getting a one count.
Yehi came right back with a chop and looked for a series of German Suplexes. Williams broke the grasp, but would get rolled up for a two count. Back on their feet, Yehi blocked a kick and attacked the foot before hitting a boot to the head with Williams on the mat, getting a near fall but moving right into a Koji Clutch! Williams used his second rope break to survive, leaving one left for both men.
Yehi tried to get a suplex, but Williams dropped him into the crossface, unable to get the hold and being rolled up into a pin. Williams remained in control, but Yehi continued to break the crossface. He fought to his feet, only to be dropped with a brainbuster, getting a two count. A big discus lariat to Williams would see him go for a pin but get rolled up for a two.
Catch Point Breathes New Life
Yehi went right back on the attack, and countered another lariat into a flatliner, applying the Koji Clutch. Williams used his final rope break to survive. They’d get back to their feet and throw an array of open palm strikes, Williams looked for the piledriver, Yehi counted into a pinfall, before being stunned with a big forearm.
Williams went to the top rope, Yehi followed only to be hit with a DDT onto the top turnbuckle, and fought off the in a crossface valiantly without use of the ropes. A piledriver would drop Yehi, but he got his foot on the rope, using his final rope break when it was more important.
No more rope breaks in this match, and Williams would finally lock in the crossface. He’d fight to his feet and try to use the ropes, only for Williams to apply a dragon sleeper within the ropes, ending this match. Williams knew that that maneuver was lethal, and now legal, a very smart finish to this fantastic match.
