For many, this is THE tag team dream match. No more watching Brainbusters vs. The Rockers while drunk with an active imagination needed, FTR vs. The Young Bucks is finally here. The two best teams in AEW, for the AEW World Tag Team Championships. This could have been a main event, especially with Young Bucks not being allowed to challenge for these titles again if they lose tonight, but it’s just another cog in Full Gear. Their sole advantage is Tully Blanchard being banned from ringside, as they bet it all on themselves.
Dax Harwood Injured His Hand
Matt Jackson would start with Cash Wheeler, and they’d lock up. While, Matt comes into this one with a hurt ankle, and Wheeler went right after it, but this was expected and he’d be able to defend it. Wheeler would lag on the outside, but get a quick lockup and bring Harwood in, but Nick Jackson made the tag in as well. This was a slow start, but both teams knew this wouldn’t be a quick one.
Harwood would do his best to slow Nick down as he got moving, only to end up in an armbar on the mat. A handful of hair got some control back, and Wheeler tagged in, only for Matt to come in and hit a double chop, back elbow and a fist drop/splash on Wheeler. The Young Bucks were showing their tag team precision, but a precise forearm to Nick got FTR back into this. Harwood would hit some heavy chops, but Nick broke free and hit a hip toss and a dropkick. FTR took hurricaranas and a series dropkicks from Young Bucks, before Harwood was caught with a dropkick and sent to the floor.
Harwood would then miss a punch and get the steel ring post, and The Young Bucks would target the hand, which was bloody. Matt would jump onto the hand, and quick tags would isolate Harwood. Pick a limb, destroy it. That’s the FTR strategy, but Young Bucks are using it. Harwood tried to work past this with elbow strikes and a scoop slam, but it was Matt missing a moonsault and hurting that bad ankle that halted Young Bucks progress.
Matt Jackson Is Isolated
Wheeler would be on his own as Harwood had his hand taped up by the ringside doctor, not wanting to stop the match. Matt would be beat down, and that ankle was the target. Harwood was back in the game, and wrenched on that ankle, bending down before helping Wheeler get Matt in the corner to hit the leg off the ringpost.
Nick would have to sit and watch as Matt was abused in the middle of the ring. Matt got a bit of space, but Harwood slid in the way to prevent the tag before taking him back to the FTR corner, but Matt would shove Harwood into the ringpost. Wheeler would take Nick out of play for the tag, and Matt would be hit with the superplex, but Wheeler was late with the splash and Matt got the knees up. He’d get an inside cradle on Harwood, but only get two and then thrown out of the ring.
Wheeler was tagged in and jumped off the apron to try to get Matt, but Harwood threw his partner back in the ring and got the tag. Matt again was close to the tag, but FTR cut the ring in half, but it was now or never, as Wheeler was sent to the outside and Harwood took a DDT. Nick Jackson was finally tagged, and he unloaded on FTR with a deadly hot tag he’s refined over the years.
All The Tag Team Classics
A flurry of kicks, a bulldog clothesline combo and more would let him bring this match back to The Young Bucks. Nick went for a diving crossbody, but Wheeler rolled through and set up a Heart Attack. They’d follow up with an attempt at the Powerplex, but Nick fought free and Matt made a blind tag and got the spear.
Matt tried to get Wheeler up for the Buckle Bomb, but couldn’t get him up. He’d end up in FTR’s corner, they’d hit the Steiner Bulldog, then Wheeler speared Nick through the ropes, but Matt kicked out at two. They wanted Goodnight Express, but Nick saved it with a Superkick, before hitting a 3D, a twist of fate and a Swanton Bomb. All that missed was a five second pose!
Young Bucks called for a superkick party, but Wheeler clotheslined the ankle to Matt. Harwood would get a powerbomb on Nick, but Matt was legal and got a crucifix pin for a near fall. Matt & Harwood would trade shots, but both used their bad limbs. Harwood recovered first and decked Matt with a lariat, before tagging in Wheeler and using #DIY’s finisher! This only got a near fall, and they’ve used every finish but their own.
They’d look for the Mind Breaker, but Nick shoved Wheeler onto the stage and dove onto him, as Matt locked Harwood in a sharpshooter. Nick superkicked the hand that got the ropes, so the hold stayed. Wheeler got in the a sharpshooter on the ramp, and FTR would lock hands, but it was broken. Matt couldn’t hold this hold forever, and had to let Harwood go. Wheeler wasn’t there to make a tag, but Nick was.
Young Bucks & FTR Met, And Everyone Rejoices
They’d stomp on that injured hand, try to break the fingers, and hit BTE Trigger, Wheeler making a last second save. Wheeler was sent outside, and Nick dove onto him after tagging Matt in. Matt grabbed a steel chair, but couldn’t lose his cool. Nick pleaded with his brother, and they looked for Meltzer Driver instead. Wheeler took Nick off the apron, FTR hit Mind Breaker, but made the cover too near the ropes.
Matts boot was pulled off, the injured foot exposed. They’d grapevine the leg and Harwood dove into a stomp before getting the ankle lock. Wheeler tried to intercept Nick, but he dodged and broke the submission with a 450 Splash, Matt not getting the pin fast enough for a win. Nick checked on his brother, only to get a superkick from Wheeler, who’d tag in as Harwood flopped to the outside. Matt took a superkick to the head, and Wheeler would make a choice to try for a springboard 450, missing this. One superkick later, and Young Bucks are champions.
This was a tag team classic, like expected. Kenny Omega would come down to celebrate with the Bucks, and Page hung out on the stage, watching his former friends celebrate. What is next for The Elite? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
