The talk of the wrestling world right now is Zelina Vega. She was released from WWE last night, just ten minutes after making a tweet about supporting unionization. Vega has since been approached by the president of the Screen Actors Guild, and has gotten support from across the board. She would even go live on Twitch last night to speak to fans directly about what went down, and what the future holds for her.
Zelina Vega Isn’t Done With Professional Wrestling
Many fans were worried that this would be the end for Vega in the wrestling industry, but it will take more than this messy situation to break Vega down. In her own words from the stream “My first love is wrestling, and I’m not giving that up.”
She would be flooded with support on the stream, to the point of being moved to tears. “I’m sad and I’m completely heartbroken. Obviously, this isn’t the last that you are gonna see of me…I love you all though and I’m really really thankful to every single one of you. If I go down as someone who stood up for themselves, so be it. I’m still thankful, I’m not angry. I’m just heartbroken because doing this, being a wrestler is all I ever wanted to do. I don’t really know what to say, there’s so many things I want to say but I don’t know how.” She ended the stream with well over 14,000 subscribers, a pretty big number for a smaller streamer like herself.
One thing to note is that Vega didn’t rip into WWE on this stream, which is a smart move given her 90-day non-compete clause. Her doing so could have also had negative effects on her husband, Aleister Black, who remains on the Smackdown brand.
Standing Up For Herself
A major reason why Vega was released was of course the third party ban that WWE is rolling out. Vega has noted that streaming on Twitch helps her mental health, and she also recently launched an OnlyFans account to share her cosplay pictures on. Neither was about the money for Zelina Vega, but WWE still wanted to shut them down. Vega would stand strong and refuse to back down, likely leading to her release.
There is no doubt that big things will come in her future. She has the advantage of coming out of this situation with arguably a bigger following than when she was in WWE. Vega has the moral high ground in this situation, which is a powerful tool indeed.
